ncphototrekker's Full Review: OEM Verizon brand Carry Plastic Holster with Belt ...
I have recently purchased a new cell phone, which for me is a pretty big deal. I don't like getting the latest and greatest when it comes to phones, I just like having something that will allow me to make calls. The phone that I finally decided on was the Boulder by Casio, which has turned into a great phone.
I have always preferred to have my cell phones on my waist or clipped to something instead of in my pocket. This means that I have to purchase an accessory clip of some sort. I have used several different clips over the years and have never really had much to say about them. They were what they were.
The Verizon belt clip/holder is a little different than what I have had in the past. The first thing that I noticed about it was the finish. It is plastic like the other ones I have used, but the plastic is finished in a rubbery texture just like the phone casing. It actually "feels" as durable as the phone itself. It is not shiny, and really fits the overall look of the Boulder.
The second thing that you will notice is that there is a large tub-like recessed area on the clip. This is for the accessory battery that comes with the Boulder. The battery is designed for longer phone operation and is likely to be the primary battery on this phone. With the larger battery attached to the Boulder, the phone fits right into the clip with no issues.
This brings me to another point that I really like about the clip as opposed to others that I have used. There is a thumb break at the top that is positioned straight up as opposed to the 70 degree angle of my last one. This design allows the user to be able to release the phone very easy. The tension is just right to keep the phone securely in the holder, while still allowing easy release...something my last one was very bad at. The Verizon clip makes it so easy, you can do it with one hand.
Of course, you don't have to release the phone from the clip if you don't want to. The design allows the user the ability to open the phone (clam shell design) and access all of the functions while it is still secure in the holder. You can even attach the headset, or charging cord at the bottom while the clip is still attached. This is beneficial since the phone can't be charged in the charging cradle when the clip is attached.
One other thing worth mentioning is that the clip rotates so that the phone can be carried in any number of positions on the belt. It keeps the phone close to you so it doesn't snag on things, or get in the way. The rotation point is well dampened without being too hard to twist. My last one was so tight I didn't think it would rotate until I had it for a month or more.
The one thing that I would like to see would be the ability to store the extra battery in the holder. The smaller battery is actually quite small and shouldn't take up much room in the holder. A place to put the small tool that comes with the Boulder would be nice as well. The trade off would be more bulk, but some customers would like the feature I'm betting. I would like it, but wouldn't want too much depth added to the design as it is perfectly sized as is.
Overall, I really like this holder/clip and think it is a great addition to the Boulder phone. It is rugged and keeps with the general design theme of the Boulder, and is quite functional. I would say it is a must have for this phone.
