I thrive on summer outdoor living. After a day of the beach, hiking, cycling and a host of varied activities nothing beats relaxing on the patio and watching the sun go down with a drink in hand with friends. Invariably, mosquitoes invade the party making it necessary to resort to extraordinary measures and thats when the Off PowerPad comes out at my house.
What It Is
Off PowerPad is an attractive solution to the various sprays, strips and foggers that offer varied results at equally varied price points. Offered in an attractive mission like lamp, theOff PowerPad offers mosquito relief for 225 sq. feet or 15x15 area for up to 4 hours. Activated by a replaceable strip that drops into the top of the lamp fixture and is heated by a small candle at the base, the PowerPad releases repellant fumes from the top of the lamp; simple! Refills of the repellant strip and candles come in a 3 pack each for about $4.50 and much cheaper if you catch them on sale.
How It Works
The design of the PowerPad is clever and effective. Placing the repellant pad into the top of the lamp in a dedicated slot exposes the pad to the candle which is lit, effectively heating it and releasing the repellant fumes. The instructions call for placing the PowerPad on a level surface near the targeted repellant area. Often this means placing it in the middle of a table you are entertaining at, which can have subjective reactions to the Off PowerPad. While effective at keeping pesky mosquitoes at bay, PowerPad does release a mild odor that many will not find objectionable but a select few have, in my experience making it necessary to resort to old methods, sprays etc., which are a quick reminder of why the PowerPad gets the nod at my home. Like any product, there are positive and negative considerations but results are the key here; Off PowerPad works!
Franklin Square - Off
On the positive side it can be said that an attractive lamp beats citronella candles and the mess that invariably come with spilled wax and the smell of citronella. There is no mess associated with the Off PowerPad. When the candle burns out, in roughly 4 hours, you simply replace the candle and repellant pad and you are off to the races again.
This exercise is simple quick and safe. The candle housing clips into the lid, and while there is the hazard of a flame, it is not exposed and some common sense in handling this product is needed.
On the negative side, some folks are allergic to smoke and cannot tolerate the smoky emission of the PowerPad strip.
The area of coverage may be an issue with some users. While one candle can effectively cover an area the size of a typical lawn table and chairs, you really need to place a few around the perimeter of your patio and a couple within to effectively control the area around you. I keep 6 around my patio and light them all.
Final Thoughts
Off PowerPad provides an effective alternative to pricey foggers, smelly sprays affording you the opportunity to enjoy your property without the unwanted invasion of mosquitoes further reducing the exposure to the West Nile virus which should be a huge selling point here. While there are no guarantees, I have found Off PowerPad an effective deterrent and useful weapon in battle against the infamous mosquito. While there will be detractors, so be it, this product deserves a look and for my part, I must say, it has earned a permanent place on my patio.
