Two years ago, just before Christmas, I went to an Oreck store to purchase bags for my two Oreck upright vacuum cleaners.  There was a shelf of Oreck XL Car Vacs on display for half the price of the original purchase price of $40.00.  I needed a new car vac and thought my daughter would also like one for an additional Christmas gift.  I purchased two of these car vacs and have not been sorry.

Description:

The Oreck XL Car Vac is as light as a feather.  It is silver gray in color and weighs less than two pounds.  It measures 14 x 4 x 5 inches. 
This handy car vac has a 15 foot 12V power cord that is to be plugged into the cigarette lighter of your car. You will find the cord plug stored in the plug storage compartment at the back of the car vac.

According to the Oreck dealer, it depends upon the model of your car as to whether or not the car must be running for the vac to power on.  I have a VW Passat and my car has to be running in order for it to power on.  The 15 foot cord is long enough to reach my trunk for easy cleaning.

The Oreck XL Car Vac is lighted so you can vacuum into dark spaces.  It is a bagless car vac with a dust filter.  It comes with a crevice tool which is stored in the back of the vacuum for easy access.  The brush tool can be inserted into the front of the vacuum.
 
Included with the car vac is a black cloth storage bag measuring 10” x 20.5” with the name ORECK boldly written in silver print across the length of the bag. 

Cleaning:

The dust container is be removed by pressing down on the release button located on the side of the vac.  The dust container is tilted forward and the filter cup may be removed for cleaning.  I use a small brush to remove the debris from the filter cup.  The dust container should be washed and dried before replacing the filter cup.

My Experience:

I have owned other car vacs in the past, and the Oreck XL Car Vac has been the best I have found.   It has more suction than my other car vacs.  The interior of my car is black and the light on the top of the vac makes it much easier to see while vacuuming.

I especially like the long, 15 foot power cord so I can easily reach my trunk for cleaning.  The crevice tool and brush come in handy for specific cleaning areas.  For example, the crevice tool fits into tight spaces that I could never clean with my other car vacs.

I appreciate the inclusion of a storage bag to keep the vacuum, cord, and brush tool together to store in the trunk of my car.  I can use it any time needed, especially at the marina where I spend a lot of time in the summer and bringing in grass and gravel into my car upon entering.

The one thing I don’t care for is the vacuum is bagless and cleaning the filter cup and dust container can be messy as well as causing my allergy symptoms to exacerbate.

Warranty:

Oreck offers a one year warranty against defects in material and workmanship under normal and non-commercial use.

Cost:

The retail price of the Oreck XL Car Vac is $40.00.  Oreck sometimes offers this car vac as a gift with purchase of an Oreck upright vacuum  cleaner.  I was fortunate to purchase my car vac when it was on sale for half the retail price.
