Pros: Inexpensive, Easy to use, Minimal waste
Cons: I almost peeled my finger one day. Ouch!
I've had this OXO Softworks Swivel Peeler for a few years now. I bought it at Target and it was very inexpensive ($7.99). The vegetable peeler that I had before this was one of those really old all-metal ones that you really had to push in order to peel things with. With my old peeler, I dreaded having to peel vegetables and tried to avoid it at all costs.
This peeler makes quick work of peeling vegetables (and fruits) and the peel literally slides right off. I don't know if it is the way that it is engineered or a sharp blade, or both - but this peeler rocks! In the few years I have had it (with frequent use) it hasn't seemed to dull - not one bit. I do know firsthand that it is sharp because one day I was peeling an apple for my daughter and was holding the apple wrong and managed to slice into my finger with this pretty bad. With that, I learned my lesson that this peeler means business.
The handle is a good size (about 4-5") and the blade is about 3". It is black and the grip is rubbery with a cushy feel to it which makes it easy to hold onto and comfy. It is also very easy to clean and I often toss it into my dishwasher silverware rack with no regrets.
I regularly peel carrots, potatoes, apples, and cucumbers with ease. I also like that it manages to peel off just the peel and very little of the produce so there is minimal waste.
This is a must-have item in my kitchen drawer and one that I panic slightly about when I cannot find it.
I would absolutely buy this one again in a heartbeat.
