| Javelina's Full Review: OXO Steel Stainless Steel Pie Server |
In our kitchen, we have a variety of Oxo products. It is one of my favorite brands, so when it came time to make our bridal registry, I added on some more items that we wanted to add to our collection. One of them was the Oxo Pie Server.
This server is around $7.99. We generally buy our Oxo items at Linens N Things, and sometimes at Bed Bath & Beyond. Both stores send out coupons for $5 off $15 and 20% off, and accept competitors coupons (each others!). My BB&B also takes coupons that are expired. All together, the coupons really are an incentive in purchasing home items.
So as not to be confused, Oxo makes another pie server, their Good Grips pie server, which has a handle that is entirely rubber.
Oxo Pie Server
This pie server measures 11" x 3" x 2 and weighs 4 oz. It is imprinted with the Oxo logo where the handle meets the blade.
The server is stainless steel with a rubberized handle. The handle is half metal, half rubber. Even with the rubber, this pie server is dishwasher safe.
The top of the handle has a hole in it for storage. For years I have hoped to buy (or hey, receive) an Oxo Tool Rack, but I have yet to get it.
There is a satisfaction guarantee on all Oxo products. If you are not happy with your item or it breaks (under reasonable circumstances), you can get a refund or replacement. I have never once had to follow up on this guarantee as I have been happy with my dozens of Oxo items.
My Thoughts & Experiences
Although I dont get around to nearly as much cooking as I would like, a pie server is becoming increasingly useful in our house, especially for entertaining. We have used this for more than just pie, including cake, quiche, and even lasagna (ok, thats when everything is dirty in the sink).
The great part about this Oxo pie server is that it is strong and has serration on both sides of the blade. We are both right-handed in our house, but I still like that it is symmetrical. The blade is actually pretty sharp, but it probably has more to do with that it is really strong. This is not a bendable item, and I have no problem whatsoever cutting through whatever foods I am presented with. The blade doesnt sag or bend when Im pulling up on a slice of something.
The rubber handle is always a favorite feature of mine (for Oxo products). It helps me to get a good grip on it even if my hands are wet. Even better is that it is dishwasher safe, so I can get it sticky with pie and can still throw it in the dishwasher. The pie server maintains a sophisticated look because it is predominantly stainless steel and then just has the rubbery sides on the handle. The rubber sides have a fin pattern to them that makes them grippy.
The hand is also fat, making it comfortable and easy to hold. It seems like a design that is very ergonomic.
Overall
I was really happy to add this item from my wedding registry to my ever-growing collection of Oxo items. I have no complaints whatsoever. This Oxo pie server is durable, strong, comfortable and easy to use, and even better it is dishwasher safe.
