Ogio Grom Stand Bag--First Call For Backup
Written: Feb 12, 2012 (Updated Feb 12, 2012)
Rated a Very Helpful Review by the Epinions community
Pros:Lots of Pockets, Lots of features, Great Build Quality
Cons:Might be ever so slightly on the heavy side for some walkers.
The Bottom Line: If you need a bag for double duty, this one makes a pretty good option. Yes--I own it!
If you are a serious golfer, then you might find yourself in the position of owning more than one bag. at one point i actually owned darned near half a dozen, cart bag, Walking Bag, Sunday Bag, etc....Now that reality has reared its ugly head, I'm back to only two. One for riding, my Sun Mountain C3, and One For walking, this Ogio Grom Stand Bag. If you're riding in a cart, you can afford to lug around a C3, but during the long hot Texas Summers, one is better off with a decent walking bag rather than trying to lug around a Tour Bag. This Ogio Grom fits the bill for several reasons. Pockets and Attachments--4 Stars I'd give her five stars on a better day, but let's face it, my C3 has more pockets than Harpo Marx's Trench Coat. This Ogio is definitely more than generous, however, and never borders on the superfluous. There are fleece lined valuable pockets, a water bottle holster, the patented Ogio ball pocket, as well as a reloadable ball silo. Come complete with rain hood, and double triangle carrying strap system. Anything else needed, and you may as well go to a cart bag, and ride. Weight and Versatility--4 Stars Some consider it a bit heavy for a straight up walking, bag, but then again, I'm used to walking 27 holes in the middle of July, so no harm no foul. While 7 pounds empty isn't exactly a featherweight--it's not really an ultralite either. The new stand system is an improvement, as the old one was notoriously mediocre. I had a 20 year old Zevo stand bag that had a better system than the old Grom. The new stand system makes this a superior intermediate bag that can do double duty. Also adding to the double duty capabilities is the 14 way top with full length club dividers. It can ride around on the back of a cart, and you don't need to worry about bag chatter. the wrist handle is extremely well located, and just as stout as it is convenient. There is an anti-twist strap which also makes this a decent cart bag. Overall--4 Stars This is my second Grom. If you read my reviews regularly, you know that I am a World Class Cheapskate. the fact that I would buy one of these, let alone a second one, is testimony in and of itself, that these are a pretty good deal.
Thanks Again, and until next time, Hit ‘em long and straight.
