Wow, what a review! (Reply to this comment)

After my my girlfriend sent me Cannonball (never heard of this guy damien rice before) it blew me away, listened to it over and over again. It's our song now, easily!

Having since bought the album, I can't believe there are humans in the world not blown away by this album, but to each, their own.

Blowers Daughter no staying power? Ptooe!!!! :)

I know, I know. When I wrote this review I knew it was SEriouSLY going against the grain. In fact, that's why I waited somewhere around 10 months to write it. I didn't want to write something immediately and get it all wrong.

Unfortunately, it's still right in my head. Thanks for being honest and rating based on my writing (not my opinions which are obviously against your own).

Again--many thanks.
Shelly.

I gave your review a "Very Helpful" rating, but only because you write it well. In fact, I couldn't disagree with you more. Rice is every ounce the genius that he has been proclaimed to be. How can you not like "Cannonball"??? It's one of the most beautiful songs ever written in the history of the world! (Yes, in the entire history.) And "Blower's Daughter" is downright gorgeous. Honey, are you listening to the same album that I am???? :)

Respectfully,
Ken

Lemme think about it. There are moments I do like, but on the whole (like you already know) I'm not pleased. But not pleased enough to get rid of it? Not sure...

Thanks for the offer.

Confused as ever,
Shelly.

Re: o no!! (Reply to this comment)

Thanks for the comment.

An admission. I don't as a rule see live shows. Growing up and during college I lived in areas where concerts didn't occur. In fact, I had to drive at least two hours and during college as much as six hours to get to ANY venues at all. Therefore, well, I haven't learned to really appreciate live shows.

My point? I won't see Rice live. Heck, I feel lucky in my day to have seen but a few performers live (The Eels, STP, RHCP). Thanks for the suggestion though...I think I've had too much of Rice for my own liking already :)

Impeccable taste? Um. No. Not even close...

Shelly.

o no!! (Reply to this comment)

shelley...how can someone with such otherwise-impeccable taste not be taken in by this? perhaps you are taking in a little on the side from a damien competitor? rufus or sondre lerche or josh rouse paying you a little extra to denounce the rival?

i am sad, sad, sad.

i'm sure you feel you've already spent enough on him, but if the cheap opportunity ever presents itself, perhaps seeing him live might change your mind. much less of the orchestral "pompousness" that you hate (and i love) in amie & others, plus lisa gets to solo a lot.

cheers darlin'...

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know. My reviews make me less popular by the day :)

In any case, I knew when I wrote this that most people would disagree. That's actually why I put off writing on it hoping that it would grow on me. Actually, EXPECTING it would. Instead, it didn't and I in the end didn't like it on the whole.

Anyway, thanks Carletta for your comment. It is (as always) much appreciated.

Yeah. I knew it was going to astound more than draw agreeances. Go figure.

I have mixed feelings about this CD, which is why I can't review it. I agree with you in a lot of aspects, but I also really like it... I don't know.

To me, to sum it up simply, this CD is great for background music while you and your emo friends are having candle lit conversations about Alec Waugh books or something.

Nice write up :)

i SO disagree with you shelley! what are you thinking??

how can you possibly a call such an amazing song as the blower's daughter "painfully lacking in staying power"? it puts many modern songs to shame...

...i'm sorry you didn't like it though. i'll just convince myself you got a bum copy and it's not really the same CD i've listened to over and over for nearly a year.
