The Yahoo is the best whitewater sit on top kayak I have ever seen. It also is one of the best kayaks I have seen in handling large surf. You absolutely cannot beat this kayak in whitewater or in the surf. My family owns one, and we use it all the time for whitewater.
PROS
1. Excellent in surf and on whitewater. This boat is the best ever at handling large ocean waves or large whitewater rapids. I have used ours for whitewater many times and have rarely flipped or lost control.
2. Stability. This is a major issue for whitewater kayaks. You must have excellent stability if you're going to use your kayak in whitewater or in surf, and this is without a doubt the most stable kayaks on the market. It is almost impossible to flip this kayak!
3. Maneuverability. This kayak is also one of the most maneuverable kayaks on the market. You can make a complete turn on the dime, which is often necessary in heavy surf.
4. Durability. The durability of our Yahoo amazes me. All sit on top kayaks of mine tend to hold up very well, including this one. There are very few dents or scratches in the hull.
CONS
1. NO CARGO SPACE. This is a major setback for this kayak. There is absolutely nowhere on this kayak that you can put any cargo at all. This is a major drawback, and the reason why this isn't the best ocean kayak on the market.
Summary
Overall, this kayak is a pretty good buy, worth the price of about $450. It is excellent for whitewater and for surfing, but not for trips because of no cargo space. I recommend it to anyone looking for a short enjoyable whitewater paddle or anyone wanting to surf in a kayak.
