It was time. My three-year-old HP Officejet 600 printer was dying a slow death. I have after all put it through a lot; four moves, a few unscheduled drop tests, and plenty of duty cycle. It was beginning to eat paper, and the print has been suffering from streaks and ghost images for a while now. In addition, the printer was making noises I was not exactly comfortable with, and I was afraid its would die on me without notice.
So, it was time. Time to buy a new printer, another multifunctional printer that is. I still needed the functionality of the 600; i.e. color printer, copier, fax, and scanner. So I choose the Hewlett Packard T45, which as it happens was on sale at Best Buy for $299.97, and I got a $40.00 Best Buy gift card to boot.
Hewlett Packard builds the best printers on the market in this humble reviewers mind. I have owned no less than six inkjet printers, all made by HP, and have enjoyed consistent superior print quality and outstanding reliability, my current Officejet 600 snafus not withstanding.
The T45 offers many new feathers the Officejet 600 does not have including the following: color fax send & receive, 1200dpi scanner resolution, color & black & white copier, and scan-to-email using MAPI (Mail Application Program Interface). The T45 also offers the following major feather set.
· Color resolution: 600 x 600 dpi with HP PhotoREt II for photo-realistic color
· Black resolution: 600 x 600 dpi with HP REt (Resolution Enhancement technology)
· Color speed: Up to 6.5 ppm
· Black speed: Up to 9 ppm
· Paper capacity: 100 sheets, 15 envelopes, 30 sheets card stock, 25 transparencies
· Scanner resolution: 300 x 300 dpi optical
· Scanner Enhanced resolution: Up to 1200 dpi enhanced
· Scanner bit depth: 24-bit color for millions of colors, 8-bit gray scale (256 levels of gray)
· Scanner software: Built-in I.R.I.S. OCR software automatically converts to editable text and retains columns
· Print technology: HP REt (Resolution Enhancement technology)
I unpacked and installed the T45 in under 45 minutes, including software and driver installs. One of the great things about the T45 is that it is a stand-alone unit; all of the functions except OCR can be performed from the keypad on the top of the Officejet. Word to the wise: the OCR and photo graphics program are not installed automatically, you have to install it after you install the software and drivers for the T45.
So far so good. I ran several test prints & scans and the T45 is everything it is advertised to be. The print quality is outstanding, the scanning is quick, the included OCR software is accurate, the copier is precise, and the printer is pleasantly quite!
If you looking for a multifunction printer that won’t break the bank, look no further than the HP Officejet T45. You could look elsewhere, but why?
