If the envelope had one of these, that's what did it. Also, credit cards or even the fake ones you get in the mail, always need to be shredded individually and not with other paper if possible.

much shredder for $25 - and few at that price point will shred credit cards.
By the way, many people seem unaware that if a shredder is rated for eight sheets, then that's eight unfolded sheets. An envelope containing a single piece of paper folded in thirds is, by that standard, five sheets. No wonder that credit card smacked the machine around!
