Classic Super Nintendo Wii Controller
Relive those Past Memories!
The Story
The sole reason for my purchase a Nintendo Wii several years ago was to relive past memories of original Nintendo games from Nintendo, Super Nintendo, and Nintendo 64. I love playing Super Mario Brothers and Return of the Jedi and guess what, they require the Classic Controller. Some of the games won't even load without it connected. So, you are required to go to your local GameSpot or BestBuy and purchase this $20 controller accessory. Read on for more details on why you should purchase one.
The Product
It resembles the original Super Nintendo controller but with a newer feel to it. One improvement they made was to put the cord on the bottom of the controller. You have the following controls: a, b, x, y, L, R, Zl, Zr, select, start, home, up down, left right, and two analog control sticks.
Some of the classic games can use just the Wii Remote, but after 20 minutes of play, at least for me and my friends, your fingers start to cramp because the position and size of the Wii Remote. The classic controller is larger and meant for longer use of such games that don't require wireless sensory play.
The Positives
Easier to use for longer durations when playing classic games. Lightweight and durable, I can't imagine this controller accessory breaking down for at least a decade, if not more. However, if you don't want to fork out twenty more dollars, you can use a Nintendo GameCube controller for most of the classic games.
The Cons
Its wired! So if you can afford it, I would purchase a wireless one. It is so weird being tethered to a wireless unit, you can't exactly jump up and down and cheer with your friends when you win. It would be nice if Nintendo would make custom controllers instead of accessories. I would rather buy a $40 wireless classic controller that does not require the Wii Remote connection, but who knows if they will ever create and sell such a product since price point is usually key.
PLEASE NOTE: A Wii Remote is required to use this device, it cannot be used by itself.
In the End
It brings back old memories of cords and 2-D Mario and Yoshi saving the world one sewer at a time. But I would recommend the off brand wireless version of the classic controller versus this one by Wii. But this is an affordable solution if need be. But remember, a classic controller is required for some of the original games you can download! You just need to decide whether you want a wireless one made by someone like Nyko or this corded version by Wii.
