| del-1's Full Review: Ogio 2006 Street City Corp Messenger Bag with Padd... |
I have owned several different side bag/briefcase/messenger bags and have been waiting for one that could perform to my expectations.
The Ogio Corp City Corp Messenger bag did just that.
Please be aware that this is the 2007 model (711207) and Ogio has had a prior model named City Corp Messenger bag and a Street City Corp Messenger bag which are NOT identical to the CORP City Corp model. The title of this epinions section is wrong but the picture is the model of the bag I have.
I work in the healthcare field and for several months I have seen several physicians and sales/pharmaceutical/medical device vendors carrying this bag. I was able to inspect the bag and found it to have a lot of what I was looking for and finally decided to get one.
Basics
* The bag is available in Red (Fire), Grey (Petrol), Blue (Royal), Black (Midnight)
* Dimensions: 13"h x 18"w x 6"d
* Weight 3.42 lbs
* Capacity 1500 Cubic Inches
* Front Flap with a Zippered Pocket and a pass-through Audio port. Inside this pocket is another pocket that can hold an mp3 (iPod) player
* Under the flap is a Laptop Pocket with a Velcro Strap that secures the laptop. Easily swallows my 15" Dell laptop and probably could hold a 17" laptop without any problems.
* Also under the flap is another large zippered pocket, a small zippered pocket, 4 pen/pencil holders, key holder strap/clip, and a small mesh open pocket.
* The front flap is fastened down with two plastic quick-release buckles at the bottom corners.
* On the right side is a small pocket with an elastic rim that can hold a cell phone. The strap loops to the bottom of the pocket and back up and over the cell phone and is fastened with velcro. This is an interesting and useful design since pulling up on the velcro strap lifts the cell phone out of the pocket.
* There is a main large and roomy central pocket with the zipper extending approximately 1/4th of the way down both sides and meeting up with the shoulder strap hooks.
* Inside the main central pocket are three separate pockets that divide the width of the bag by 1/3rd for each pocket. The pocket depths are approximately 2/3rds of the height.
* Behind the main central pocket is another zippered pocket where the zippers extend 3/4ths of the way down on either side. There are 3 dividers extending across the entire width in an accordion type fashion on the sides.
* On the back of the bag are two zippers one near the top and one near the bottom extending nearly completely all the way across the width of the bag. With both zippers open this allows a pass-through for an extended pulling handle of a rolling/carry-on suitcase. There is also a pocket on the inside of this area that extends across the entire width of the bag that will hold items despite having both zippers open.
* On the back of the bag is also a small pocket approximately 5 inches wide and 8 inches deep that functions to hold your airplane tickets or other papers that need to be quickly accessed.
* There is a set of sturdy carrying handles and a comfortable adjustable shoulder strap.
Pros
+ Pockets all over from the front to the side to the back of the bag that allows one to keep things well organized
+ The dividers in the back helps compartmentalize papers and even books
+ A laptop computer is easily placed in or taken out and is easily accessible even with the bag hanging by your shoulder straps. There are many other bag designs that require the front flap to be snapped in order to carry the bag by the shoulder strap. This bag does not do this which allows carrying it and accessing the the pockets under the flap. Nice!
+ The main pocket itself could engulf other messenger bags.
+ Sturdy zippers, handles, straps, buckles/hooks.
Cons
- The material is sturdy but makes for a heavier starting weight. With the amount this bag can probably hold, the bag and its contents can end up being quite heavy!
- The cell phone pocket is too narrow at the top, particularly with the elastic. Since it has a velcro strap, the elastic rim is also probably unnecessary.
- Not a significant negative for this bag, but the bag does not have a support bar (metal or plastic) all the way across the top which can help prevent the ends from coming in together when using the shoulder strap. Again, this problem isn't bad on this bag at all. Furthermore, having a bar would add to the weight of the bag.
Bottom Line
To date, this is the best (non-leather) side messenger bag that I have used and owned. Of course I wish it cost less (who doesn't) but it gives you a lot for what you pay.

Price paid: $80 (early 2007)
Note: Not all Ogio products are stellar. I don't think highly of the Ogio Metroid Backpack.
