Indeed! The Eels do rock. He/they/whatever have a new album coming out this year. I can't wait. It's supposed to be a return to the Electro-Shock Blues era. Count me in as excited!
Thanks for the comment.

I'm listening to the Shins right now. I found them online after reading the review. Pretty interesting, not my normal genre, but not too bad either.

to see that you finally got a Shins review out. I've been looking forward to one. I also happened to be listening to Eels while reading this review, and you happened to be the one to spark my interest in the band.
Nice review.

...Chutes Too Narrow? Darn -- now I'm going to have to go back and listen more. I remember the hype, especially the college radio hype, for that album a year or two ago, but I had no idea their early efforts were so praise-worthy. Thanks, Shelly!

Hello Shelly,
We...agree? Weird. Creepy. I think I'm going to read your review of "The Meadowlands" again to make myself feel better.
Then again, we have Iron & Wine. We will always have Iron & Wine.
Anyhow...
You sound like me when I tried to review The Arcade Fire album. When you really love a piece of music, it's pretty darn tough to put it into words and feel like you're doing it justice. But hey, I enjoyed reading this, so no problem!
i'll sing like i'm king of the eyesores
peace & love,
Eric

Hmph! I like the Shins too, but "perfect" seemed awfully strong as a descriptor. Then i thought about it, and damned if you don't have a point. The Shins know what they're trying to do, and as you say (and describe) it's hard to name anyone who could write their sort of twinkly 3-minute songs more flawlessly than they do.
Not _quite_ impossible, though; reading your review, i have this feeling that you'd reeeeally like Statuesque's Choir Above Fire Below (www.125records.com, MP3's available). Just so that, next time, you can sneer at the rest of us laggards. :)
cheers,
- Brian
