This is actually my entry into the Mothers Day write off. I realize that this is pretty late, but I have had a really busy couple of weeks. So I apologize to all of you and especially to Dionne25 who was the sponsor of this write off for my tardiness. For more information on the write off and who participated you can go here:

When I think about products my mom uses a few things come to mind very quickly. My mom is not a real experimental person and she has been using many of the same brands ever since I can remember. She cleans her floors and walls with Spic and Span, washes her dishes with Joy dishwashing liquid, cleans her bathrooms and tough jobs with Clorox Cleanser, and uses Tide Fabric Detergent and Clorox Bleach to wash her clothes. She never has switched on any of those things no matter what new products come out.
I could have done a review on any of those products in her honor, but I wanted to honor the woman and not her cleaning talents. I thought about writing about her favorite restaurant witch is Bakers Square, and perhaps some day I will. I wanted to honor her beauty. She does not wear a lot of make up never really has, but at 65 years old she can still catch many a mans eyes. It also seems like she has barely aged in the last 20 years, she still looks nearly the same as she did back when I was a teenager. I attribute this to her healthy life style, but perhaps some credit should go to the moisturizing lotion she has been using on her skin ever since I can remember, Oil of Olay.
Oil of Olay Active Hydrating Beauty Fluid - Original
Olay has added several new items to their list of products but my Mom has always stuck with the original. The packaging has changed slightly over the years, and I dont know if they have ever changed ingredients or up dated the product, but I do know my Mom has stuck with it for many, many years. Of course seeing how good my Mom looks, and knowing we share the same genes I figured what works well for her should work well for me as well, so I started using Oil of Olay Active Hydrating Beauty Fluid Myself.
Oil of Olay Active Hydrating Beauty Fluid is what I would call a basic skin cream. It is used to basically hydrate the skin and help keep it firm. It does not claim anything extremely fancy, it does not have special vitamins, nor does it have sun screen. But if these things are important to you Olay does make products with both of these things. The ingredients in this product are very simple and the first ingredient is water:
Water; Cetyl Palmitate; Glycerin; Mineral Oil; Petrolatum; Cetyl Alcohol; Glyceryl Hydroxystearate; Stearic Acid; Steareth-100; Dimethicone; Octyldodecyl Myristate; Potassium Hydroxide; Fragrance; DMDM Hydantoin; Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate; Tetrasodium EDTA; Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer; Carbomer; FD&C Red No. 4
(the above information was take directly form the bottle)
The lotion itself, is a bit on the thinner side, it kind of squirts from the hole at the top of the bottle. When you apply it to your skin it feels very wet. It takes a little more effort than some lotions to wipe into the skin, but once you are finished you will notice that your skin feels very moist, and it feels like your skin is drinking it in. This is definitely a lotion and not a cream, so remember the consistency is more like hand lotion than it is cold cream.
As for fragrance to me it smells like my Mom, it reminds me of my Mom and there fore is special to me. But if not for that I would find the sent to be kind of light, a little sweet and a little clinical. I honestly dont know how to describe it, it is not a nice scent, it not a bad scent, it is obviously there though. Lets just say it could be better, but scent is not something I really care about when trying to hydrate my skin.
Oil of Olay Active Hydrating Beauty Fluid comes in two different sizes. One is smaller and great for traveling the other is a couple ounces bigger and good for keeping around the house. The beauty fluid comes in a light plastic bottle which comes packaged in the trade mark black and white box. It comes in 4 oz and 6 oz sizes. As I mentioned above there is a whole in the center of the top of the bottle where the liquid squeezes out. The lid is certainly nothing fancy either, as it just simply screws on and off.
Price and Value
I would say that the price for Oil of Olay is average. Since you buy it discount stores like Walmart, or drug stores like Walgreens as opposed to department stores you know that the price will be at least reasonable and it is. It is not the cheapest lotion out there, but it is a good value for the money as in you get what you pay for. A bottle can last you several months if you are careful. A little of this beauty fluid goes a long way, and you dont need a ton of it. Since it is thin however if you squeeze the bottle too aggressively you will squeeze out more lotion than you actually need. And since it only has the small tiny hole at the top you cant really put any back if you take too much out. So be careful other wise you will end up wasting a lot of the product.
My Thoughts and Experience
I like the Oil of Olay Active Hydrating Beauty Fluid, perhaps not as much as my mom does, but I do like it. It has such a wet and moisturizing feel when you apply it to your skin. It is also not oily or heavy. I dont feel like I am smothering my face when I put it out, it just feels light and wet. It is nice to wear it under foundation in the winter time.
As I mentioned above it does not have any extra ingredients in it that are meant for protection against sun damage, so if you will be spending any time out in the sun you will have to apply something extra to your face on those days. I myself have a few different lotions that I wear in different situations, but I am a clutter queen so I dont think that you want to follow in my footsteps.
Not only does the product feel great but it works nicely as well. After applying it dry patches are gone, although after a few hours they will normally return, so as soon as your skin drinks it up your skin goes back to normal.
The product prides itself for being oil free, non clog forming, and dermatologist tested, it is intended to be used by those with normal skin. If you have extremely Oily, dry or sensitive skin you may want to try some of the other Olay products that are specific for these skin types
I would recommend this product, as it does hydrate your skin nicely. You do have to remember that it is a basic lotion though and does not make any fancy promises, it also does not deliver and fancy results, it simply does whet it was meant to, no more no less. So if you are just looking for something basic to hydrate your skin this is perfect for you, if you have more severe problems, or need a specialized lotion then this one is not the one for you. Mom uses it and she looks great, that has to say something for the product.
Thank you Dionne25 for sponsoring this write off that honors Mothers every where.
