Once upon a time there was a woman who adored body lotion. She shopped altogether too frequently at places like Bath & Body Works as she loved the yummy fragrances, and had shelves full of smelly-good products in her bathroom. After showering, she would pick a bottle and slather lotion all over herself, and as a result, was always soft and nice smelling.
Then the woman had a baby. All of a sudden, she barely had time to shower, much less spend time afterward pampering herself with lotion! Her husband would hover at the bathroom door, fussy baby in his arms, repeatedly shouting, "Are you DONE yet?!" The woman was not happy, and her skin was dry from lack of lotion.
That story probably sounds familiar to many of you - I am that woman, and you may be too. Even if your situation is different and you're suffering from a time shortage for other reasons, you can still relate. Who has time to spend applying lotion and waiting for it to dry? And in this age of instant gratification, how much longer would it be before the whole process was revolutionized?
As it turns out, our time has come.
~* So Few Choices, So Little Time *~
Like most of the bath products I'm trying these days, I first read about Olay Moisturinse In Shower Body Lotion here on Epinions and, during a weekly visit to Wal-Mart, decided to treat myself with a bottle.
I found the silvery-white 8.4 fl. oz. (250 mL) bottle on the store shelf for $3.99, and available in two formulas: the lotion for extra dry skin rested on a translucent lavender flip-top cap, while the normal to dry skin variety that I chose had a pink cap.
Not about to purchase a bath product fragrance unsmelled, I flipped both caps open there in the store aisle for a quick sniff. They both smelled very similar - light, fresh, and a little flowery. According to the product label, Olay Moisturinse "works with the warmth and humidity of your shower to reveal soft, smooth skin after one use. Daily use will improve hydration of dry skin in five days."
Would it, now? Well, we'll just see about that.
~* Directions for Use *~
1. Cleanse with body wash or bar soap as usual, then rinse.
2. Dispense product into hand and smooth onto wet skin. Start with a quarter size amount for each area of the body (adjust as needed).
3. Rinse.
4. Pat dry with towel.
For best results, use after cleansing with Olay Bar or Olay Body Wash.
~* Hurry, Hurry, Hurry *~
The scenario in our house that night was no different from other nights. I passed the baby off to her father, who (very busy watching something-or-other on television) grunted at me and instructed me to hurry up. Sigh.
I ran to the shower at warp speed and hurriedly washed my hair, face, and other vital areas before grabbing my new bottle of Moisturinse. I squeezed a quarter-sized amount of the thick, white lotion into my hand - it looked just like any other lotion, and I instantly pictured myself sliding all around the shower in the next instant. However, once I began to smooth the lotion onto my arms and legs, I noticed that it applied more like a creamy body wash than a lotion, lathering just a bit and rinsing away very easily. (Perhaps a bit too easily - be careful not to get your hands too close to the water when you're applying the lotion!)
I finished my shower in record time and towelled dry, patting as much as I could at the insistence of the directions while hurrying as much as possible at the insistence of the screaming child in the next room. I noticed that the scent of the lotion had dissipated greatly and was now barely noticeable over the scents of the soap and shampoo I had also used, but it had performed as promised - my skin was soft and smooth without the stickiness and mandatory drying time of conventional body lotion!
Not only did my skin feel nice just after showering, but it stayed soft for the entire next day - even problem areas like knees and elbows were reasonably moisturized, an accomplishment that I would never have expected from such a new and unorthodox product.
Need I elaborate on how much I love my Olay Moisturinse In Shower Body Lotion? Granted, there are a shortage of fragrances to choose from - that is, one and only one - but when it comes down to this lotion or no lotion at all, I'll take it, and am happy to have it.
~* Slip & Slide? *~
The label of this product cautions, "as with other bath and shower products, this product may make some surfaces more slippery." However, I noticed no difference in the surface of my bathtub after using this product; with the two or three crappy bath mats stuck to the tub floor, I'd surely have fallen and broken a leg if the product had coated the surface substantially.
