Pros: Lifts, firms, concentrated, affordable, visible results
Cons: Scent is a bit strong, cream is a little sticky
I am a devout Philosophy skin care user but lately, the Olay Regenerist line has caught mt attention. When I saw in a magazine that Olay Regenerist Micro Sculpting Cream won all kinds of awards for hydration and firming, I just had to try it.
I like this cream. It doesn't replace what I use but it will supplement it.
About the Product
Intracellular hydration regenerates volume and shape across skin's 10 million surface cells, progressively lifting and micro-sculpting to help:
* firm sagging-prone areas, even the jaw line
* smooth skin's surface
* restore elasticity
The result of over 50 years of Olay research, this luxurious cream has the highest concentration of our signature amino-peptide complex infused with intracellular fortifier and a touch of precious marine proteins.
This cream comes boxed in traditional Regenerist black, gray, and red. The 1.7 ounce plastic jar is deceptively large with an extra layer of plastic. The jar is red with a silver cap. The cream is white and somewhat strongly scented with a slight perfumey, soapy scent.
Frankly, I didn't know whether this was a moisturizer or an additional cream for firming. I honestly still am not sure but it's very hydrating and can easily double as a night or day cream. Its main claim to fame is that the cream lifts and sculpts the jawline, eye area, brow, and any other sagging parts of the face.
I use Philosophy's When Hope is Not Enough Lifting Serum and am happy with it but I just had to try something different for a change. This cream is pretty thick and concentrated. I just dab a small amount on my jawline, around my eyes, on my forehead, and then finish off with a pea sized amount all over my face.
The cream feels very cool on my face and does hydrate my dry, mid 40 year old skin. But does it firm? Actually, yes! I noted from the first application that my skin looked lifted. Nothing dramatic of course but the area around my eyes looked fresher and the "marionette lines" on the sides of my mouth appeared softer.
The cream isn't my favorite for hydrating because it feels a bit sticky on my skin. Still, if used in small amounts, this cream really does seem to have a lifting, firming affect on my skin. I often use it as an eye cream during the day and pat it around my mouth and on my jawline then use my usual lighter day moisturizers.
I have not experienced any irritation or breakouts and the cream doesn't clog my pores. If I use it in small amounts, my skin doesn't feel tacky or sticky. If I plaster the stuff on (as I do with my night moisturizer), it will definitely make my skin sticky and won't absorb for a long time.
Used correctly, I have seen visible lifting and firming with Olay Regenerist Micro Sculpting Cream. I doubt the lifting is a permanent thing but it is a good temporary fix for tired eyes or slightly sagging skin. The cream works well on the forehead as well to slightly lift the skin there and smooth fine lines.
I'm quite impressed. This is a drugstore cream and only costs about $25.00. That may seem expensive but I have paid many times the amount for less product and less results!
This cream will never replace my Philosophy creams but it will supplement them. The scent is just a bit too strong for my liking but that is a minor issue. The main issue is that the cream does what it says it does. You won't look like you had a face lift but your skin will be more lifted and have more elasticity with use of this cream. Use it sparingly, concentrating on the areas that need firming or lifting and I think you'll be pleased.
I am VERY hard to please but I am quite happy with the results I have seen when I use this cream and plan to continue using it in conjunction with my usual skin care regiment. It is heavy enough to use alone as a primary moisturizer but I can't bear to be apart from my favorites.
Olay Regenerist Micro Sculpting Cream can be purchased at drugstores and mass-market stores and ranges in price from $23.00 to $27.00 a jar. Look for coupons! There are a lot of them floating around and lots of sales as well. Used as I do, one jar will last for months. If you use it as a day and night moisturizer, you'll probably get more than two months use out of one 1.7 ounce jar. The results are worth it.
I wish this cream were fragrance free but the scent isn't bad, just a tad perfumey. The cream does feel slightly sticky on my skin at first but, used sparingly on the areas that I want to target, it works! It lifts and tightens my skin without feeling uncomfortable or masklike. The cream is a good moisturizer and makes my skin very smooth and supple. I give this cream 4 stars. It's an Olay winner!
