The Bottom Line: These taco shells make a quick, easy and delicious addition to a Mexican meal.
I love Mexican food, but not many people I know like it as much as I do. The closest my family will come to indulging my Mexican food craving is with Old El Paso Taco Shells 12 count.

There are twelve hard taco shells packaged in a 4.6 ounce box with the classic yellow color and red Old El Paso logo. The cardboard box lists complete cooking instructions on the back of the box. Not only are the instructions written out, but there is a pictorial instruction guide along the top back of the box.
Inside the box, the hard taco shells are telescoped inside one another and shrink-wrapped in plastic. To keep the end taco shell's sides from breaking, there is a cardboard insert inside the end taco shell.
Don't mistake these shells for a taco kit. The only thing in the box is the twelve hard-sided taco shells. The back of the box may make it look like there is more inside it. For instance, the instructions and matching illustrations show to cook beef or chicken in a skillet and to stir in Taco Seasoning (Old El Paso brand, of course). However, the box does not contain the seasoning mix. It has to be purchased separately as does the salsa if you wish some.
It is easy to prepare these taco shells. Note: They cannot be cooked in a toaster oven. Heat a conventional oven to 325-degrees F. On an ungreased cookie sheet, place the taco shells. It's important to pull the telescoped taco shells slightly apart, making sure the edges of the shells overlap. This helps support the taco shells so that they keep their shape. Bake them for 6-7 minutes or until they are crisp. There are also instructions for cooking the shells in a microwave by fanning the shells in a circle on a plate, again making sure the edges slightly overlap. Microwave on high for 45 seconds.
I cook the taco shells in the oven and have never had a problem. They always come out perfectly crispy, never overdone. They have a nice crunch and taste good. For me, though, the flavor of the taco comes from the seasoned meat, the extras (such as shredded carrots and lettuce) and salsa. The taco shell holds all the good stuff and adds a nice crunch.
Sometimes I do open a box to find that a shell is cracked. It's rare for me to find one completely broken. The twelve shells are enough to feed three or four people.

I make sure to buy Old El Paso Taco Shells. They are delicious, quick and easy to cook. This is a great way the whole family can enjoy Mexican fare.
