I want the best for my fur babies. I take them for their yearly checkups and for daily walks. Besides the usual things owners do to keep their doggies in the best shape I like to make sure they are being fed a high quality food. With all the recalls in the past years I try to stay with trusted brands. One of the brands I trust is Wellness.
The Product
Wellness Core dog food comes in bags of 4, 12, and 26 pounds. Prices vary, but I paid 25.99 for a 12 lb. bag at Petco.
Wellness Core contains NO meat by-products, wheat, soy, dairy, corn or corn gluten, artificial preservatives, colors or flavors. ~according to back of bag.

My dogs enjoy feeding time! And yes I said dogs. We now have a Dachshund/Chihuahua mix that we have to feed also. Both of the dogs enjoy mealtime. Our new one will eat anything that is even halfway edible, but our JRT can be picky sometimes. I never had him tested but I’m pretty sure corn makes him itch. Whenever he was on cheaper grocery store brands of food he was always scratching and licking his paws. After doing some research I learned that it was a sign of food allergies. Core is grain free so if your dog has a grain allergy this may be an option for you.
Since switching his foods his scratching has stopped and his coat looks really good. We still have shedding but it is not as much as it was.
The food has a strong odor to it which I’m sure attracts my dog’s attention. It is strong but not a bad smell.
Wellness Core claims to coat each kibble with Acticoat, which is a source of live naturally-occurring micro-organisms normally found in a healthy digestive tract. I don’t really know about that but my dog’s BMs are not soft and smelly. They still use the bathroom twice a day but it is small, firm and easy to clean up after.

Since Petco started selling Wellness, it is much easier to find. Wellness can also be purchased online, but be prepared to pay a hefty shipping charge.
This is a side note: High protein food should not be fed to large breed dogs. Make sure it is okay with your vet before feeding a high protein food.
