Pros:fast heat, iTouch control, temp dial in good place
Cons:poor steam, leaking from the front, cord not long enough
The Bottom Line: If you find a deal, try it out, but do not pay what they ask for a new one. No iron is worth that much! Better than many Rowentas!
I will admit that I was taken with hype when I first saw this nifty self lifting iron. I've had it for just over a year now. I bought this at Joanns for 125 when I was having a bad day (I buy new appliances to cheer me up when I'm upset about something)! I've had several Rowentas over the years and they all started to leak and spit after a few years.

This iron comes with a filling cup and the manual. It is pretty heavy compared to many other irons out today. It heats up quickly. The lifting mechanism is great, though there is a bit of a learning curve to get used to not tipping the iron up on its heal when adjusting garments. For anyone who doesn't know, this iron has little legs that extend out of the bottom when the user lets go of the handle.... this keeps the iron just off the ironing board so it doesn't scorch, and at the same time, prevents the user from having to tip the iron up on its heal. I have 5 irons and when I get bored with the Oliso, I switch back to my old Rowentas or GE.... quite often, I forget I'm not using the Oliso and leave them flat on the irong board! When the user grabs the handle, the iron senses this and retracts the legs so the iron can be used. The iron also stops producing steam when the handle is released and restarts when grabbed again (in theory, that's how they adviertise it, but in reality, the iron still produces steam even when I don't have my hand on it).
What I like:
One of my favorite things about this iron is that the control knob is on the top, front and center, right where it belongs. I do not like irons that have the knob under the handle. There are 5 controls on this iron: temperature dial, cold spray, steam surge button, automatic steam control slide, and a button to turn the iTouch control on or off. The ability to turn the "legs" on or off is great for people who want to use the Oliso more like a traditional iron. The hole for filling the water is on the side and is very large so filling is easy and can be done with minimal spillage. I still spill, but it's because I'm clusmy and often in a hurry when I iron. The weight is well balanced and the handle is comfortable. The sole plate glides realatively easily and is resistent to scratches. It works fine for getting wrinkles out of all sorts of fabric. I iron every day before I go to work, and I sew as well, so I really put an iron to use.
What I don't like:
The steam could be a lot more powerful than it is. My Rowentas, depsite their leaking, will blast circles around this thing. Sometimes, when I press the steam burst button, nothing even happens, no matter how long I've waited between blasts, or attempted blasts. It usually works, but it doesn't often enough to be annoying. The point on the tip of the iron isn't as sharp as I prefer them to be. The cord, at 8.8 feet is much too short. I think an iron cord should be at least 12 feet. There's no wrap for the cord and it doesn't retract, so they totally overlooked the cord storage issue with this thing. I never put my iron away, so it's not an issue for me, but I can understand how that would be bothersome to other people. This iron also leaks and spits. It only leaks from the sole plate every now and then, but what happens more often is even worse. There is a hole under the control knob and above the cold mist nozzle on the front of the iron and this thing expels water every time I use it. It runs down the front of the iron and puddles on the board. Very annoying, though it doesn't cause any real problem. The motor for the legs is loud and whiny sounding, and it sounds fragile though mine has not broken yet. There is no self clean feature on this iron.
Other things worth mentioning:
One time, I had the iTouch control setting turned off so that the legs would not retract, but I put the iron down flat as if I'd had it on out of habbit. Well, several seconds after I did that, the legs came out and lifted the iron anyway! Great safety feature, and it saved me from burning my board. There is an indicator light on the hanlde to let the user know what's going on.... it flashes red when the iron is off, but plugged in. It flashes green when it is heating, and stays solid green when the iron is up to temperature. This iron is equipped with auto off safety features which is great for someone who is absent minded like me (I once left a pot of tea boiling on the stove and merilly went off to shop at Target.... realized it halfway there and drive in the median trying to race back before burning down the apartment complex)! If the iron is left untouched for a certain number of minutes, the red light will flash and it will turn itself off... that feature has saved me from turning around halfway to work to check many times, though I usually still unplug it as the manual recommends when I'm not using it. If only it would teach my toaster oven to do the same thing!
So, while this iron isn't even close to perfect, it is better than many other irons I've tried. I would not pay the amount of money I did if I had it to do over again.... I think it's worth about 40 dollars. They have yet to make a perfect iron... powerful steam, no leaking, removeable tank, and a retractible cord (not to mention the controls where they belong) are features I'd love to see on an iron. This one lacks most of those things, but still, it works. This review would have been a lot more favorable had I written it when I first got the iron. I liked this iron a lot better when I first got it. Over time, the charm and novelty have worn off, and I've discovered things I don't like. I'm keeping it until it dies or I have enough money for a Laurastar!
