| iggleswhyth's Full Review: Olympus Camedia E-20N Digital Camera |
I'm a semi-pro photographer. I picked this up after reading numerous favorable reviews. It is just fine as a high end vacation camera but leaves a lot to be desired for portraiture and studio use. This camera has sent me back to film. I now use it only to proof the lighting prior to shooting with a 35mm or 120mm film camera.
Pros:
Relatively cheap, drives studio strobes (why I bought it), nice zoom, good auto focus, TTL viewfinder (I cannot stand LCD viewfinders), lighted status screen.
Cons:
Poor sensitivity to dark colors, you will notice that virtually every shot, regardless of the subject has a boost in the center of the histogram. Abominably slow transfer speed to the compact flash; TIFF is completely unusable because it takes so long. Auto white balance is a nightmare. If you buy this camera use one of the preset WB settings or your colors will shift all over the place. After a year of heavy use all compact flash cards failed to work for a week. Tried inserting, removing jiggling, etc. but no dice. All cards worked fine in other cameras. Finally
it just started working again.

Amount Paid (US$): 900 This Camera is a Good Choice if You Want Something... Easy Enough for Anyone to Use
