kb2jxm's Full Review: Olympus Stylus 800 / µ 800 Digital Camera
2/13/08 - The cam worked fine except while taking movies. The video was good but it sounded like something was rolling around inside with the slightest movement of this cam. At first, I thought this was suppose to do this but this (loose part) noise was getting into the audio of the movies I took. This went on for a year. This is a much longer story than what I'm typing, but, I sent it to my Extended Warranty Service to have it checked out. This turned into a BIG MESS and took 3 months to get this whole thing straightened out which was never really straightened out. Twice it was sent to Olympus due to incompetency on my Extended Warranty Service diagnosis. Olympus scraped my cam without my knowledge and I was told by my Extended Warranty Service that it would be replaced with this, that, and the this other model. I then found out, these models were now obsolete also as well as my 800 (2007). My Extended Warranty Service sent me an Olympus Stylus 1000 (10mp) in place of this mess. The Stylus 1000, at the highest resolution, doesn't take continuous movies like the 800 did. It gives you 15 second intervals and then goes into the pause mode. Not good for continuous movie taking. It's suppose to do this. I sold it on (E-bay) and at the same time, won another Stylus 800 to which I found out the same exact problem exists with this new cam. This (loose part) noise inside was inside this one too. This noise still gets into the audio of my movie taking. From these 2 800's that I owned, I can only surmise that this (loose part) noise is the way the cam was designed. Talking to Olympus out this does nothing because it's now obsolete. They take no responsibility for this now. I like the cam but I'm stuck with this noise. Whenever taking movies, I have to hold it as still as possible which is impossible because I video my sons hockey games. The Stylus 1000 doesn't have this audio problem. Only the 15 second interval problem. Watch out for anyone selling these 800's, telling you about an included warranty. Olympus doesn't repair the 800's anymore.
