| Twix109's Full Review: Omaha Steaks Bull Wings |
This is a new product from Omaha Steaks. The title is misleading. These are sirloin pieces in a buffalo sauce. The title in the promotions and on the flyers are Buffalo Bull Wings, but it is not buffalo, it is not bull, and they aren't chicken wings. They are sirloin pieces! Omaha Steaks really didn't hit the highest note with this product. About Everything from Omaha Steaks comes in frozen cardboard boxes. These bull wings come in vacuum seal packaging. There are 2 - eight ounce packages. These are pieces in about little two inch pieces. They come in the vacuum seal all balled together. When you thaw them (how to do that in the next paragraph) you will separate the pieces when you rip open the vacuum seal. A box sells for about $10 in the stores. Preparation Instructions These bull wings need to be thawed. Place the vacuum seal packaging in a bowl of cold water until the meat is thawed. Then, rip open the packaging and separate the pieces of bull wings. Then follow one of the three options for cooking. You can Pan Saute: Preheat 1 teaspoon of oil in a non stick skillet over medium high heat. Remove thawed Bull Wings from packaging and carefully place in hot skillet. Quickly sear for 4-6 minutes until well browned or slightly blackened, turning once in skillet. You can Broil: Preheat broiler. Remove thawed Bull Wings from packaging and place on broiler pan. Broil to 2-3 minutes on each side. You can Grill: Preheat grill to high. Remove thawed Bull Wings from packaging. For best results place on skewers. Grill to 2-3 minutes on each side. My dad and I have put these bull wings on skewers and grilled them. One box of bull wings will give you about 3 small skewers. Nutritional Facts One serving size is 3 ounces. Contains: Milk. Experience Firstly, the title of this product stinks. These aren't bull wings. They are sirloin pieces in a buffalo marinade. If Omaha Steaks was thinking to hit a home run with the title, they barely hit the ball. Secondly, if you're going to grill the bull wings, make sure you have skewers. It took us a few minutes to go searching through our kitchen drawers to find skewers. It would have been great if these were already on skewers. Sadly, there were only 3 small skewers. My dad and I have big appetites, and this was like a too small appetizer. For us to have a meal, we'd need at least 3 boxes. Maybe there were 20 bull wings in the entire box. Even for an appetizer at a party, you would need a few boxes. The bull wings come into small strips. So, you would think that they'd be in a spicy buffalo sauce with a combination of spicy and blue cheese, right? Wrong. These Bull Wings pretty tasteless. The sauce that they were marinated in is barely there and it isn't spicy or blue cheese tasting at all. All you really taste is a firm, beefy, sirloin piece. Since sirloin has the most beefy flavor, I don't think this is the best choice for the buffalo Bull Wings. A meat that has a mild flavor like filet mignon probably would have absorbed the marinade flavor a little better than the sirloin. Then, Omaha Steaks recommends horseradish sauce, blue cheese dressing or ranch dressing to accompany the Bull Wings. I think that Omaha Steaks needs to completely start over with this product. If I could taste the buffalo/blue cheese marinade, I would use the dip to only add to the flavor, if at all. I think that after you're done grilling you need to add some hot sauce and some blue cheese to the sirloin pieces and make your own Bull Wings. Omaha Steaks, start over on this product, because it is absolutely dreadful. And, while you're at it, change the stupid name, too. 1 star, Thanks for the read, Danielle
