| Twix109's Full Review: Omaha Steaks Creamed Spinach, (2) 14 |
We've never had creamed spinach until we tried it from Omaha Steaks. Spinach is pretty bitter and a little hard to eat, but the creamed spinach is tasty and will have children eating like Pop-eye in no-time. About Everything from Omaha Steaks comes in frozen cardboard boxes. The creamed spinach comes in 2 trays, each containing 14 ounces of spinach. These retail for $9.99 with a purchase. The tray can be put in the microwave or the oven. Preparation Instructions Do not thaw this product. There are 2 cooking methods. You can use the Microwave: Cut a slit in film covering tray. Place the Creamed Spinach tray in microwave. Cook on high for 4-6 minutes. Remove the tray from microwave, stir and let stand for 2 minutes. Remove film and serve. You can bake in the Oven: Preheat oven to 350°F. Remove film from tray. Cover with foil. Place the Creamed Spinach tray on baking sheet on middle rack of oven. Heat the creamed spinach for 30 minutes. Stir. Place foil over tray and continue heating in oven for an additional 30 minutes until heated through. We have used the microwave method for the creamed spinach since it takes 60 minutes in the oven. Nutritional Facts One serving size is 4 ounces and there are 7 servings per tray. Calories: 80 Total Fat: 4 g Saturated Fat: 2.5 g Cholesterol: 15 mg Sodium: 470 mg Carbohydrates: 9 g Protein: 4g Compared to plain spinach, this isn't the most heart-healthy dish, but there is a lot of vitamin A & C in this side dish, along with calcium and iron. Ingredients Spinach, Whole Milk, Onions, Modified Corn Starch, Butter (Pasteurized Cream, Salt), Parmesan Cheese (Pasteurized Part-Skim Milk, Cheese Cultures, Salt, Enzymes, Powdered Cellulose added to prevent caking), Salt, Sugar, Spices. Contains: Milk. Experience I didn't know what to expect from this side dish since I've never had it before. I do like spinach, but I usually have to put a little butter and salt on it to eat it with ease. This creamed spinach was piping hot out of the microwave. It looked very creamy and wet. When you put it on your plate, it looks like little leaves. They are not long and stringy as I assumed they would have been. The leaves are very tender, and the sauce isn't heavy or thick, but there is a lot of it in the tray. The spinach is thoroughly covered. The sauce is out of this world. The milk, onions, butter, and especially the parmesan cheese really stand out. It doesn't list what spices they use, but I taste garlic in this mixture. It isn't spicy or bland, the onions and parmesan flavors stand out, and the butter and milk make it creamy and delicious. Four ounces isn't really that big of a serving. You can definitely wind up eating the entire tray. Compared to other Omaha Steaks products, this side dish is pretty healthy at 80 calories. Since creamed spinach takes time and effort to make, this side dish is easy and delicious. It is also a very filling side dish. 4 stars. Thanks for the read, Danielle
