| Twix109's Full Review: Omaha Steaks Smoked Pork Loin Ribs 4 1 Pound |
Ribs are always a delectable treat to have for grilling on a late summer night. I love ribs that are tender, and with lots of sauce on them. Sometimes, when you buy ribs from the supermarket, you really have to be crafty in making a marinade and/or rub, so Omaha Steaks takes all the guesswork out of it and allows you to buy a box containing 4 - 1 lb racks of ribs.
About
Everything from Omaha Steaks is frozen and come in cardboard boxes. When opening the box, there are four separate racks of ribs vacuum sealed in plastic. You can see the red sauce through the plastic. The rib racks vary in size. The a few that came in my package were 9 inches long by 3 inches wide while others were around 7 inches long and 5 inches wide. You can these on sale at about $60.
Preparation Instructions There are four ways to cook the Pork Loin Ribs. Two methods involve the oven. The other two involve the microwave and the grill. You can thaw if you use the first oven method or the grill method. Thaw them on a plate in your refrigerator. Oven: Preheat oven to 325°F. Run sealed package under cold water for 10 seconds to release film. Remove pork ribs and sauce from package and wrap in foil. Place in pan on center rack of oven and heat for 60-70 minutes (30-40 minutes if thawed).
Oven - Tender Restaurant Style: If you like meat that falls off the bone, try this method: Preheat oven to 350°F. Remove pork ribs from package and place on a large sheet of heavy duty aluminum foil. Add 3 tablespoons of water to the foil and wrap tightly, crimping the seals of the foil. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 70-80 minutes.
Microwave: Remove ribs from package as directed above and place meat side up in microwave safe dish. Cover with plastic wrap, venting one corner. Heat on high for 5-6 minutes flipping halfway through cooking time.
Grill: Preheat grill to high. Run sealed package under cold water for 10 seconds to release film. Remove pork ribs from package, wrap in foil crimping edges. Heat on the grill for 23-25 minutes flipping halfway through (10-12 minutes if thawed).
We have only used the grilling and regular oven method to cook these ribs.

Experience As with most Omaha products, they are very easy to prepare. You run the package under cold water for 10 seconds to release the film from the pork ribs. Then you can prepare them how you'd like. With the two methods that we've used, the oven is by far the easiest. All you have to do is put them in foil and throw them in the oven. My dad wanted to try the grill method, and they had more of a smoky/outdoorsy flavor on them from being on the grill. The pork ribs are fully cooked, so they just need to be heated through and then you can devour them.
What I don't like about the pork rib rack is the variation in sizes. Some ribs are longer then others, while other ribs are shorter. It looks kind of weird when you get 7 big, thick ribs out of one rack and 15 tinier ribs off another rack. I think that Omaha should try to pair up similar looking pork rib racks so keep it consistent.
The ribs are very tasty. Each rib has an adequate amount of pork on it, and the sauce is absolutely delicious. It is the Omaha Steaks BBQ sauce that has a very sweet, tangy flavor, and the ribs are hickory smoked, and you can see the little pepper flakes. I think that this sauce is on the salty side, but the meat is tender and if you do the "fall-off-the-bone" oven preparation method, the pork meat will fall right off the bone. I also think the pepper is a tad bit overwhelming, even over the BBQ sauce. It isn't chewy, or hard, but it is soft, saucy, and very, very tasty. As with most ribs, this will get on your hands and face, so get the towelettes ready and bibs on!
I do enjoy these ribs, but I don't think you should pay $60 on a regular basis for them. I think that Omaha Steaks lacks consistency in the size of the pork ribs, and I think that they are a little too salty and peppery for my liking. I think that you can get 4 lbs of ribs at the supermarket and experiment with your own concoctions of marinades/rubs/sauces and get something similar to these ribs. However, not everyone's lifestyle allows the time to prepare and cook ribs, so these do allow you to enjoy something delicious in a time efficient manner.
I am going to give these ribs 3 stars. They are delicious, but for $60, a variation in sizes, and too much salt and pepper, you can probably find something a little better.
Thanks for the read,
Danielle
