angelwings724's Full Review: Omega Paw SelfCleaning Litter Box 257532
I've had my cat for 6 years now. We have been through several litter boxes trying to find the best one we could; one that would be easier to use.
One day in Petco, we came across the Omega Paw Self-Cleaning Litter Box. We looked it over, read the directions, etc on the packaging, and purchased it.
The Omega Paw has 3 pieces to it. The top, bottom, and the tray. The entire box measures 17"W x 20"D x 16.5"H. It comes in various colors; the ones available to us at that time was blue or green with a gray bottom. We chose blue. The price was $29.99 in the store. You can purchase this online at www.petco.com for $24.99. The weight is 4.7 lbs without litter. It is quite heavy with litter in it, so I don't move it very far when I have to "scoop".
The litter box is made of a hard, durable plastic. The top removes easily for cleaning and refilling. It snaps back into place when finished.
It is slightly bowl-shaped on one side. The bottom is flat on the bottom but is angled on its' sides.
Next, there is a tray that is conveniently placed inside the top of the box. This allows for "scooping".
Why is it called "self-cleaning"?
Because you don't actually have to get in there with a scoop and scoop out the clumps. Instead you "roll" the litter box.
Yes, you read that correctly.
When you are ready to "scoop", you simply move the litter box to the center of the room. Then you roll it towards its curved side/cleaning tray. As you do this, the litter falls into the tray through a little "vent". This vent is a one way valve. The clumps go through this vent, into the tray. When you roll the box back down on its' bottom, the vent closes, trapping the clumps inside. The excess litter is deposited back into the litter box.
Depending on how often you "roll" your litter box, one - two rolls at a time should be sufficient to remove all the clumps. There might still be a few clumps left, that perhaps fell apart and slipped back through the vent. However, these same small clumps would undoubtedly fall through the slats on a scooper.
Once you finish with the rolling, slide the tray out and empty in the garbage and dispose. Slide the tray back in for future used.
You have no more use for scoops, liners, or filters. The cat litter will always be fresh...it will at least be fresher than having all of those clumps in the bottom.
When the top and bottom is snapped in place, there is a small opening for your cat to go in and out of the box. Most of the smells are trapped inside of the box.
This litter box only works with clumping litter. You can use regular litter of course, but the self-cleaning/rolling feature will not work.
About once/month, we take it outside, take it apart, and clean it with the water hose and disinfectant.
We really like this litter box. After having tried various ones, this one was the most economical. It is pretty easy to use, keeps the mess and smells inside, provides privacy for your cat. I think we will be using this for a very long time.
The Self Cleaning Litter Box is a covered litter box that is particularly easy to clean. When the box needs cleaning simply roll the top of the box t...More at Amazon Marketplace
