Pros:small convenient size, thick acrylic, bold markings, durable, inexpensive
Cons:only good for small projects
The Bottom Line: This Omnigrid ruler is a must have for my sewing area.
I have owned this Omnigrid 1" x 6" Ruler for years. At first it was a fun buy. (I love acrylic rulers!) But it wasn't long before this ruler became a necessity. Let me tell you why.

This Omnigrid ruler measures 1" across x 6" long. It is constructed from heavy-duty durable acrylic. The ruler is 1/8" thick. These rulers are laser cut for a straight edge, plus Omnigrid guarantees the ruler's accuracy to within .002 inches.
The markings on the ruler are in a bright yellow and black. The ruler has markings every one inch noted with a yellow circle with the number written in black (1" through 5", the end of the ruler being inch number 6). The measurement markings are in eighths. Along the length of the ruler are also markings for 3/16" and 3/8".
The markings on this ruler are well defined and easy to see against virtually any color of fabric. Since there are both yellow and black markings on the ruler, the yellow is easy to see against dark fabrics, and the black lines are visible against lighter color fabrics.
I also like the thickness of this small acrylic ruler. I have owned this ruler for years, and it still looks brand new. The thick sides are perfectly straight with no nicks or gouges from use. Since this ruler is small and durable, I can also easily tuck it into my sewing bag for travel to quilting workshops.
I do a lot of sewing and quilting. One of my favorite methods of quilting is paper-piecing. This method of quilting uses a paper pattern that fabric is sewn to. The fabric is placed right sides together against the paper, and both fabric and paper are sewn through using a sewing machine. I like this method of quilting. It allows me to sew small blocks and achieve sharply sewn corners and points. Triangles can be especially tricky when dealing with small pieces, so paper-piecing is a great way to achieve accurate results. Typically, my paper-pieced blocks are three to four inches square with anywhere from ten to over twenty pieces of fabric per block. The designs vary from picture images (houses, animals, birds, seasonal images) to crazy quilt and traditional designs. I also create a lot of my own blocks.
This small ruler is essential when I paper-piece blocks. The ruler helps me achieve accurate quarter-inch seams. When a block is finished, I also need to add a quarter-inch seam around the finished block and then trim the block to its finished size. This ruler is easy to work with. I keep it beside me on the sewing table while I work. I also have a small cutting mat near the sewing machine so that I can place the block on the cutting mat, align the ruler, then zip along the ruler's thick edge using a rotary cutter. This system works great for me.
However, this is not the only sewing and quilting ruler I use. This 1" x 6" ruler is great for smaller projects, but it won't do for cutting longer fabric strips or working with bigger blocks unless I need to measure something six inches or smaller. I own various rulers that can be used on larger pieces of fabric. So this is only one ruler in my sewing arsenal.
This ruler retails for $3.29, but it can be purchased for much less money. On sale, Joann Fabric usually offers it for just under $2.00.
I am very glad I own this Omnigrid 1" x 6" Ruler. If I should lose it, I will definitely purchase another one. This small ruler is a perfect companion for my smaller quilting projects.
I hope you found this review useful.
