thetaxiguy's Full Review: Omron Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor with Aps Model ...
I got this device to monitor my blood pressure. Like most folks reading this review, a recent visit to the doctor brought my "Higher then normal" blood pressure to my attention. I decided it was something I needed to start charting and keeping track of.
In my quest for a BP device I have read soooo many reviews and seen a large number of inaccurate BP devices that I decided I was not going to cheap out on this purchase. I needed something that was fairly accurate. I came across this device which took Blood Pressure at the wrist. After some research I learned that wrist blood Pressure was an accepted and accurate form of measurement. So I found the most expensive little Wrist, Blood Pressure, device I could and bought it.
It lists for anywhere from 80 to 95 dollars in stores but I got a new one off of ebay for 45.
The Construction of the device:
It is small and feels like a fairly solid, well put together product. The device's main unit is about 2 and a half by 3 inches in size give or take a bit.
The power:
The device runs on 2 AA batteries, which should be good for up to 400 readings. (according to the manufacturers stats)
The Performance:
Right off the bat you need to go throught a small set up process. You have to tell it the time and date, which wrist you will be using, if you want the auto position sensor on or off, and it has a couple different alarm times you can set to remind you to take your BP throughout the day.
Once set up is complete you are ready to roll. You velcro this around your wrist and push the start/stop button. Right away the sensor kicks in and tells you if you need to raise or lower your wrist to be even with your heart. I have no idea how it knows this but its accurate. Once your wrist is even with your heart. It kicks on and inflates. In a few seconds you have your reading.
The reading:
The reading seemed to be accurate. I compared it with the free Wal-mart and Target readers in the pharmacy section of each store. If its not accurate then neither are the stores that many old people rely on for their reading every day.
The bells and whistles:
This device does not have a lot of bells and whistles. It has one that I can think of. It keeps track of 90 readings in history so you can see your past readings. It also has a small graph function that allows you to chart you results.
Over all it seems like a great product. I will update this review if I find this not to be the case.
