My husband and I have a lot of BBQ's at our home. Grilling takes a lot of work. We have a large old gas tank that my husband turned into a very nice grill. We like to use only wood when we fire up the grill. This can be very time consuming. It takes time and energy gathering wood, getting to light, waiting on the coals, running in out of the house getting cooking tools and spices, by the time we get done grilling we usually get lazy when preparing side items to go with our meats. Usually we are entertaining guests or family.
We usually have lots of kids over and I am constantly eyeballing them so that they do not get in trouble. I do not like to leave my BBQ area unattended. So when our meats are about done grilling I will retire to the kitchen and find something to whip up to go with our dinner.
Nine times out of ten I will throw together a quick salad. I can have a salad whipped up in about 5 minutes if I am pressed for time. That is when my Oneida Salad Tongs come into play.
I usually like to do the paper plates and fork type deals when we serve dinner. I will serve the meats on a nice tray. I will serve my salad with my Oneida Salad Tongs.
Why Use Salad Tongs?
Even though dinner is very informal around my home, I really like using salad tongs when I serve salad. It makes it easier for guests to reach over and help themselves. It also helps make things nicer and stay cleaner. I don't have salad flying out everywhere when little hands try to serve themselves. It also prevents people from using their used forks to try and get a second helping of salad. If people can not see the serving tool to use for the salad they will find anything else to dip it out with. This sounds gross, but it is true.
Why Use Oneida Salad Tongs?
They are nice and large. You can't miss these stainless steel wonders. I choose to purchase my Oneida Salad Tongs through Target. I paid around 12.99 for my tongs.
Price was considered when purchasing these. They were the most inexpensive, yet highest quality for the buck salad tongs I could find.
They can be used in an elegant dinner setting as well as informal. They are sort of plain looking as far as the all stainless steel look, but also have a unique shape as well. These are really my favorite. I never take them to Church gatherings for fear someone will take them.
I have had several BBQ's and the Oneida Salad tongs have been very active especially with the little hands. Little hands love to play with these tongs and they have been flung, dropped, banged, and fought over several times.
My Oneida Salad Tongs are still in perfect condition from the day I first used them. They are heavy duty and I am not able to bend these. I do not have an dings or scratches in them either. They are quite shiny and still look new after all of the usage that it receives.
Yes, but how do they serve?
They are very easy to handle. I am very tiny and they are very easy to open and close. My youngest (age 6) is able to use these tongs to pick out all of the onions and tomatoes when he fixes his own plate.
I am able to ask someone to pass me the tongs and could actually reach over and feel confident enough to take my serving of salad and not worry about it falling on my guest. Not that I would reach over my guest! When we are just having family over I must admit that we are all like vultures when it comes to passing out the grub.
The handles of the Oneida Serving Tongs are able to fit my thumb and fingers just comfortable. I have enough flexibility to serve my portion just as small or as large as the mood strikes me.
I have used other types of tongs in the past to serve my salads. We had a bad experience with tongs once. One of the kids placed their fingers in one of the springs of a different kind of tong and actually pinched themselves to a point of crying. Ouch! It is always best to use the proper tools when serving salad. If you end up purchasing Oneida Salad Tongs you will find that you will not be replacing them, and that you have not overspent.
How easy is it to clean the Oneida Salad Tongs?
It is very easy. I place my Oneida Salad tongs in the top rack of my dishwasher and wash them on the regular cycle. I have not had any problem with my tongs rusting, looking dull, or difficulty cleaning them.
Other Uses
I am guilty as charged! I sometimes use my Oneida Salad Tongs to reach into my top shelving. I have grabbed boxes of Jello. I have a built in spice rack that is to high for me to reach. I will sometimes pull some spices down with the help of these tongs. I have not had anything fall on my head yet, so I will continue using them for this purpose.
Overall?
I would highly recommend these the Oneida Salad Tongs, for ease of serving food product, durability, and ease of clean.
