JJsJ's Full Review: Onetouch Ultra Blood Glucose Monitoring System
When I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes last October I felt devastated. Although I knew there was a possibility when I was growing up, because of family history, I was hoping it would bypass me. But here I was, being told that I needed to change my diet, exercise more, and monitor my blood sugars daily.
Monitoring was a scary thought to me at first. I have always had a strong pain tolerance, but just the thought of having to stick myself was unappealing. And on top of this I have severe psoriasis, and my skin is often compromised, including my fingers! Ouch!
A call from my pharmacist to discuss what would work best for me, soon revealed that the One Touch Ultra only utilizes a small amount of blood to test, obtaining the results in 5 seconds. Another option of the One Touch Ultra Blood Glucose Monitor is that you may test a fingertip or test using your forearm. The compact meter shows the date, time, and blood glucose level (mg/dl), and it also displays your 14 day average, 30 day average, and is capable of displaying the previous readings. A Logbook is included to record your readings.
The Lancet Sampler is easy to use and easy to unload. It is quick, and essentially painless to use. However, because I have some limitations in dexterity, I find the test strips a small bit hard for me to insert into the slot on the monitor itself. However, this is minor, compared to the good points of this monitor.
There are two manuals with very clear instructions, and learning to use this monitor was simple. My teenage daughter even went to the pharmacy to learn how to use it 'just in case'. The instruction manuals clearly state that the results could be 12% higher than other monitors.
My insurance fully covered the cost of the monitor, test strips and lancets.
This monitor came with a very convenient case that holds everything, the test strips, the lancet sampler, the lancets, the monitor, test solution, an extra, 'clear' cap that goes on the sampler for arm testing, even the log book.
I have been very pleased with this monitor, the testing itself, and the support given by the Life Scan staff. I have visited their website and signed up as a 'Gold' member. They send me newsletters, and have given me gifts, such as extended warranty and log books. There is also a toll-free 24 hour/7 days a week customer support phone number to call.
I would recommend using the One Touch Ultra blood glucose monitor.
