Pros: Inexpensive
Great Sounding
Easy Setup
Overall great starter system
Cons: Cheap speaker wire
Fairly large
The Bottom Line: The reason the sound wasn't a 5 is that I have heard some $2000 systems that this doesn't quite compare with. Two words: Simply Amazing

| i_hate_myself's Full Review: Onkyo HT-S650 Theater System |
This was my first home theater system I purchased. I decided to purchase it after reading all the reviews that just kept stating how amazing it was.
Since I got it, I haven't had one regret. The receiver has all the inputs and outputs you need except component. I managed to run a DVD player and PS2 into the optical inputs, and I used my Phillips Acoustic Edge to run from the S/PDIF out to the Digital Coax input on the receiver. With the Dolby Pro Logic II, it can pound.
It sounds great with movies, and sounds great with music as well. The speaker wire that comes with it is fairly thin. It is alright if you're new to this, but after a while you'll most likely want to spend the money to upgrade to a thicker, higher quality wire.
The speakers are fairly large, unlike the newer Sony and Bose systems. This didn't bother me, as I'm still able to fit it into my dorm room without blocking anything, and my roommate and I having plenty of space.
I was a bit hesitant when people would post "For your money," because I figured it would be a good quality lower-end system, even though that might seem like an oxymoron.
I put my full confidence behind this system. With 650 watts of power I couldn't have asked for anything more.
