Pros: small, good sound quality
Cons: price
The Bottom Line: For a not really large room this stereo should be all you would ever need and more.

| bfgrd10's Full Review: Onkyo PS-510 CD Shelf System |
I chose the Onyko because after doing my research, it was a simple to use, good sounding somewhat reasonably priced unit.
It does not have a lot of fancy features, but it does have what I need.
Most all features, such as bass and treble control, volumn, etc. are accessible from the remote. Some such as bass are not able to be controlled on the unit. This is somehting I think should be changed.
The Polk speakers the stereo comes with are good for the size room my stereo is in. They are not Yamaha or Bose, which I personally prefer, but you can upgrade if you choose. The cost to upgrade to a better speaker is around $50.00.
The CD player is a separate component with a 3 CD changer, and is very easy to operate. My last stereo, a Panasonic, had a 50-1 CD changer, and was very difficult to operate from the remote until I got it all figured out. It took me no time to learn how to use this remote.
The receiver is also a separate component, and more receiver than I will ever use. There is so much input and output that I was just plain confused.
The Onyko fits my needs quite well. They could scale down the remote a bit. Although it is easy to use, it has a lot of buttons on it that I will never use.
As far as sound quality goes, this system has a lot of bang. I have listened to classical, new wave, and good old rock and roll on it, and all sound great with only minor fiddling with the controls.
My Panasonic is in a much bigger room, so it is more powerful. I didn't need that in the room the Onyko is in. I have put it in a small room where my jacuzzi is, and with the speakers well placed, it is more than sufficient.
