You know what's "typically me" ? Hating Britney Spears's music.
Written: Nov 6, 2010 (Updated Nov 6, 2010)
Rated a Very Helpful Review by the Epinions community
Pros:The year 2000 has come and gone.
Cons:Lyrics, vocals, lack of involvement, lame interlude.
The Bottom Line: --
= Oops I did it again I played with your heart Got lost in the game Oh, baby, baby = It's kind of funny to even think that anybody could get away with releasing a song called "Oops," but I guess Britney can just swing that kind of lumber. It probably seems like a complete and utter waste of time to even be reviewing something as trivial as one in a myriad of bad Britney singles, but if I can get just one more 1-star product up there on that list, I can die a happy man. It's not that I want Britney to do poorly-it's just that this country's obsession with her is scary, and she's not even that talented, something proven by her lack of involvement in almost all of her musical endeavors. Even from Day One, she has been an over-produced, mass-marketed puppet, and when she released her follow to the breakthrough Baby One More Time, I realized that my young self was fed up with her. I gave her CD away and I never really looked back. Although it's been a long time since Spears was releasing bubblegum pop, the stifling, lame, outdated (even for its time) beats on this song left scars that were permanent. Oops...I Did It Again! is a song that features horribly nasally vocals from Spears, who performs the song the way she normally does-the fact that she did not and probably could not write something of this caliber (ha!) is easy to hear. The middle of the song features an absolutely ridiculous dialogue spoken between Spears and who sounds to be her lover, but she sounds like she's a fourteen year old prostitot whose sole purpose in life is to get old men to beat off to her picture. But then again, that's the point of her entire career. The song was written by Max Martin and Rami Yacoub, the former of which is responsible for co-writing much of Robyn's debut record (recently, he's been drafted to help write a new song on the upcoming Body Talk 3). But this song reminds us that Martin isn't the most talented wordsmith, the boring and lackluster lyrics on this song are proof that perhaps he should have stuck with Robyn as long as possible. The production is, as previously stated, lame and stupid. The melody is almost exactly identical to Baby One More Time, and it's not like critics didn't notice. Although a commercial success, the song was almost instantly panned by anybody with a functioning brain. While I'm sure a tanned Spears in a red cat suit certainly helped a few teenagers spew a load into their tube socks, this sound has done nothing for my ears except try to mutilate them.
