mose55555's Full Review: Optoma EP761 DLP Projector
I am writing this review because when I bought this projector, there were NO reviews available to me. So, I hope this helps someone out!
I am going to use bullets in this review in order to keep it short, but more importantly to the point.
First Impressions
--Beautiful glossy black. --Has tilt adjusters on the bottom of unit. --Has a lens shield. --TONS of inputs! Pretty much everything but hdmi. But you can get a HDMI to DVI converter to take care of that (without losing any quality of the picture.) --Comes with VGA Cord, Remote w/batteries, USB Cable. --FYI, The usb cable allows the remote to act as a mouse for the computer, when doing presentations. Very cool!
Pros
--Very bright! 3200 Lumens allows the screen to be viewable even when the windows are unshaded! --Picture looked great. For computer, looked perfect. I also watched Pirates of the Caribbean, which also looked great. --Auto source select. --Had tons of picture adjusting features. --Menu was easy to navigate. --Compatible with 4:3 or 16:9 modes. --Has built in speaker and several audio inputs. --Comes with a nice black carrying case, to hold the projector and cables.
Cons
--Zoom and focus are manual. Not a problem though, only takes about 10 seconds to achieve. --Not sure on the frames per second. Picture looked great for movie, but during very fast screen movement, could see slight lag. --Audio inputs are 3.5mm only (headphone cable). --Audio cable not included. Costs about $5 at the store. --Bulb life lasts 2000-3000 hours. You can find other projectors that have a longer-lasting bulb, but it won't be nearly as bright. So this is more of a trade-off rather than a con.
UPDATE: I've owned this projector for 9 months now and just had to replace the lamp! I got 650 hours out of the first lamp. Very disappointing! However, I have been using this projector as my television, so it has had much more wear and tear. I had to have a talk with my wife, as she thought she could just turn it on and off as she pleased. THE PROJECTOR NEEDS TO PROPERLY COOL DOWN, SO IT SHOULDN'T BE TURNED BACK ON UNTIL ABOUT AN HOUR AFTER IT HAS BEEN TURNED OFF. Well, on bulb #2 I hope it lasts longer! I got a great deal on it from buy.com but it still was $200. This could get expensive!
With the new bulb, the picture now looks AMAZING again! Friends always comment about how clear the picture is. HD, baby!
Anyway, I'll post another update if/when I have to replace the bulb again.
