| opinionated3's Full Review: Orajel Toothache Maximum Strength |
I have had real bad luck with dental work in the past. When I was younger I had several large metal filling put on my teeth, back in the early seventies there wasn't the same materials for filling teeth that dentists have to use now a days. These filling lasted for several years, until I joined the U S Navy and they decided that they needed to remove the filling and replace them with a newer material.
Of course that material has since started to fall out when I would eat something chewy, well that would leave the cavities open and exposed. Enter extreme pain, to help get me through the weekend until I could get to the dentist. I first discovered the Extra strength Orajel a couple of years ago, and I have been using it ever since for sudden toothache pain.
The active ingredient in Orajel is, Benzocaine the same oral pain reliever your dentist uses before giving the shots to numb your gums. It does provide a temporary relieve from the pain,
The the Extra Strength Orajel, comes in a 1/4 oz. tube and it contains 20% Benzocaine, which is the highest concentration of Benzocaine permitted over the counter. The Regular Strength Orajel comes in the same size tube except it only has 10% Benzocaine. I would recommend regular strength Orajel for minor pain. If you have a more serious pain I recommend you pick up a tube of Extra Strength, the pain will start subsiding almost immediately.
The orajel is very easy to apply, just simply squeeze a little out of the tube on to your finger or a cotton swab and rub it on the area of the pain and it will help to relieve the pain almost on contact.
