Pros: Great tasting, long lasting, very refreshing, sugar free, whitening gum.
Cons: About $0.10 a piece or $0.20 a normal serving (2 pieces).
The Bottom Line: Buy it. Orbit is totally worth and great in a bad breath emergency. Also, every little bit of whitening helps considering how many foods we eat that stain our teeth.
welleducated's Full Review: Orbit White Spearmint Gum
Orbit White claims to "remove stains and whiten teeth." I can't testify to how well this really works, because I also use a whitening toothpaste and whitening strips. With an addiction to black teas and coffee, goodness knows I am doing a lot to stain my teeth. So, when Orbit says that chewing 2 pieces of Orbit White after eating and drinking helps remove stains and whiten teeth, I'm inclined to take their 8-week clinical test at face value. What I can testify to is how well the flavor holds up.
There is actually something to Orbit's slogan. "Dirty mouth? Clean it up." Orbit Spearmint is strong enough to overwhelm bad breath. When I can't find my toothbrush or can't slip off to brush my teeth, the Orbit works great. Not only does it improve my breath, my mouth actually "feels" cleaner, as if I brushed my teeth. It's nice to have a sugar free, whitening gum that can pull that off. Better still, as the gum wears on, it does not fall apart or leave a film on the tongue. Instead, that feeling of "freshness" continues for hours. I have played and chewed the same pieces throughout an entire 2+ hour movie without it falling apart. Truth be told, I get tired of chewing long before the gum wears out.
The gum has little crystals which activate immediately. They immediately give a burst of freshness and flavor. The crystals are odd in that you can actually feel them crunch in your mouth. Yet they quickly dissolve into the gum and provide a burst of cool spearmint throughout your mouth. With such a strong initial flavor, one might think the taste would fade quickly. In actuality, whether you chew one or two pieces, the flavor lasts for hours. I've been chewing two pieces for the last hour and a half. I just threw it away because I was tired of chewing. Even so, I still have a strong taste of spearmint in my mouth. Even after snacking, my tongue tingles and there is a "freshness" instead of feeling like my tongue is wearing a fur coat.
While there are other gums out there that have a good spearmint flavor which lasts fairly long, Orbit is pretty much the only one I can find in the store that has a whitening, sugar free gum. I prefer Orbit because other sugar free gums I have tried fall apart when I chew them. They actually disintegrate into tiny pieces, which means I can swallow bits of them. Also, other non-mint flavors of whitening gum just don't seem to last, which is why I avoid them. For example, the Trident tropical fruit, whitening, sugar free gum quickly goes from a fruity flavor to tasting like I am chewing rubber. Yuck! Plus, it leaves a film in my mouth that makes me want to scrub my tongue.
So, Kudos to Orbit for being true to their slogan and creating a great tasting, long lasting, whitening gum!
