Oreck XL21 eats the dust
Written: Jul 17 '07 (Updated Jul 17 '07)
We had unique needs for a vacuum and went into the Oreck store with a list. The store manager looked amused as I described our allergies and our pet. A Moluccan Cockatoo that gave off a ton of white talcum dust that was everywhere and a son with major dust mite allergies. We walked out with this wonderful vacuum and an air cleaner. The air cleaner is another review.
The sales manager said, "Take it home and if you don't like it, bring it back, no questions asked". We have medium pile carpet and I was impressed at how light it was. He had showed me how to put the bag in and how the bag sealed itself when I removed it. Sent us home with a nice gift of a hand mixer I use all the time, but that is another story as well.
I turned the Oreck on and it started to move by itself across the carpet, I took the handle and it felt like it had a self propel type of mechanism which I knew it did not. The vacuum did an amazing job of cleaning the carpet of the bird dander, it was light enough to use on the stairs, cleaned the wall edges nicely and no dust particles were floating in the air.
The more I used the vacuum, the cleaner the house seemed to stay and with a bird like we had, that was an amazing feat in itself. I vacuumed the mattresses, the couches and on the hard surface floors, the lower power setting did a great job of not scattering the debrie but even tackled chunks of bird food, cheerios, an occasional penny and other kid left sundry items without a problem.
Once in a while I drop it off for a tune up and am greeted with a smile and I have never regretted buying this vacuum. We are on our 3rd year now and it works as well today as it did the first day.
