About Me: CONCENTRATE on a more productive New Year. Heres to 2012 !

21 years of Farm Family eco-Friendliness

Written: Aug 03 '09 (Updated Aug 03 '09)
Pros:Delicious cold within the fifth day of purchasing. Guaranteed organic certified
Cons:Not found a gallon in any of my local grocery stores yet
The Bottom Line: They have Chocolate flavored in some places. Great cold, best slimmer-downer and healthy ! 100% ORGANIC, bit pricey

*This review is on ONE SINGLE Half Gallon size (1.89 liters) not the 33.8 ounce Aseptic Cartons (pack of six)*

The Organic Valley Family of Farms Organic line of dairy products that I am most familiar with is their Organic Whole, 2%, Skim and Fat-Free milk. This particular review is on the heaviest of milk cream, the whole milk variety. I picked it up one day because honestly I wanted a little more than the regular watered down texture of 2%.

Now I know milk fat is primarily bad for most people who are watching their caloric intake plus the cholesterol, but I have news for you--this is good fat ! It is also good fat that is a bit pricey than your regular milk out here. As the saying goes, nothing bad used to process, package and promote but it will cost a little more if you want quality, which I do. For about $3.50 at GiantEagle chains grocery stores, I have a three-four day milk supply for myself.

The most promising element of this organic milk is that it is truly organic by way of discounting the use of antibiotics, synthetic hormones or pesticides in and around the areas these cows that are milked in, graze on. The pastures are kept virtually chemical free and so is the darn cow that makes this milk ! It is Grade A Ultra Pasteurized Homogenized Whole Milk which means the process is controlled by the FDA, (well that’s not the greatest news but I can accept that flaw . . .) so I can hope to have it be ‘pesticide free’ but not be 100% guaranteed.

The container is non-see through cardboard, wax lined on the inside and impermeable to light. The sturdy construction of the built-into container pour spout is tough white plastic that pulls up and snaps out of the center. The screw on replaceable cap keeps the freshness in but I do recommend drinking it before the fifth day after buying, its not as tasty. A date for the optimum time to use at best is printed along the top ridge of container. This half gallon, (1.89 liter) lasts about three days for me as I love milk.

To discard it, simply crush it flat when wanting to conserve space in garbage bags or pails. The cardboard is bio-degradeable, eco-friendly and can be burned if that sort of thing is allowed in your neighborhood. The dyes on the lettering of the carton may be hazardous to the environment, but it does not specify this on the container itself. A number to reach Organic Valley is provided though at the end of this review.
