Pros:Safe for people, pets, environment, most important; very effective.
Cons:Fishy smell, some plants might be sensitive to Organocide.
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend this to someone who is looking for a safer more natural alternative to petrochemical based insecticides.
Organocide is a fun product to use, although be warned it does smell like fish! When I'm applying this insecticide I wasn't too worried about getting some of it on me, and I wasn't afraid to spray it up in the air on my citrus trees; the only drawback is the fishy smell.
Supposedly the formula is approximately 5% sesame oil (active ingredient). The inactive ingredient is edible fish oil. The combination of heavy oils and an emulsifier (lecithin) makes for a lethal mixture to insects. According to the manufacturer it suffocates a wide variety of insects and serves multiples functions because it helps control fungus and mites as well. I have used this product several times now by applying it at a rate of 2 oz. per gallon in a Miracle-Gro sprayer attached to the garden hose. One jug of the stuff seems like enough to treat my 1.5 lot property two times over. Honestly I think I am going to buy this stuff again despite the very few drawbacks, I think this product has enough going for it to give it a high recommendation. I bought this product as one of my sole pesticides in my arsenal because I am trying to get away from the harsh petrochemicals and possibly dangerous chemicals that have come out of the chemical labs as of lately.
We have a dog that loves to roll around in the dirt out in the back yard and I don't want to expose her unnecessarily to anything that could be possibly dangerous; so I love the idea of killing insects but not harming anything but the insects (the fishy smell goes away after a day or so and the plants look happier than ever). I needed something to control insects though, so I turned to Organocide I figured why not, I'll give it a chance?
I love the fact that this is a natural product that can be used up to the day of harvest, and most importantly it seems to work. I love the fact that I don't have to wear a protective suit when I'm applying it, and i love the fact that this product's odor allows me to confirm that my sprayer is working.
It seems that there is very little to hate about this product, but there are two issues in particular that I can honestly say exist with this product. The fishy smell can be annoying to some people; but I can live with the smell because of the safety trade off (yeah it stinks but it's relatively non-toxic, a big plus). The only other issue, which I did not experience (my plants tolerated Organocide very well I would say), was the warning from the manufacturer that some plants might be sensitive to Organocide. Read the label before applying, most plants tolerate Organocide very well.
