Buying Halloween candy is one of my favorite things to do for the holiday. Every year there are new items to pick from and I can always count on the after holiday sales to reward me with some super savings on sweets and treats. One thing that I didn't hold out on buying was the Candy Fun Packs from Oriental Trading. While they are a little on the high side they are individually packaged so they are a safe item to hand out to trick-or-treaters as well as to add to treat bags that you might be making up for special boos and ghouls. Each pack contains an even mix of ghosts, pumpkins, bats and moons. The overall flavor of them is better than you might think; the closest comparison I can give to it is Nerds but they have a fruit flavor instead of an individual flavor. I was hoping that they would have different flavors to them but they all taste the same. They are a hard candy so they aren't something that I would recommend younger kids have access to. There is too much of a chance of them accidentally swallowing them and choking on them. If you are planning on handing out something like this to kids that come to your door I strongly suggest that you have something like a Fun Sized candy bar for younger monsters. There are gummy versions of these sold by other companies that might be a better pick if you are looking for something that is prepackaged like this but a better pick for younger kids. The edges of the packages are sealed tightly and are tamper proof, if someone tries to open them and reseal them if will be evident. One thing that I don't like about this is that the packaging on it is plain, there are no Halloween designs on it or anything that makes it look the least bit attractive. This can be a perk if you are adding it to a treat bag but personally I would rather see it have some kind of a design on it. If you are planning on having a piñata at a party and need something colorful to add to it, this is a great item to look into getting because it is completely sealed. I ordered these the middle of September and I knew that more than half of them would be snacked upon before Halloween arrived; I didn’t want to order two packs because there are 57 of them to an order. I only make up about ten or fifteen special goodie bags for kids so having about thirty of them left was perfect. Annabelle didn't want to take treat bags with her to ballet class and opted to make non-spooky pink bat cookies personalized with each girls name on them. Yeah, she came up with the idea and left it to me to make them. It would have been easier to make goodie bags. In any event, something like the Halloween Candy Fun Pack is a nice thing to have around for last minute trick-or-treaters or if you have a candy bowl on your desk at work. No one wants to eat candy that other people have touched so these are a great pick for and office setting. The cost on the Halloween Candy Fun Packs breaks down to about eleven cents per package. That's not a huge savings but from my standpoint of getting something that is individually sealed it is worth it. They are a seasonal item so it isn't something that you are going to be able to get outside of the Halloween season unless you come across them after Halloween at a place like Party City that often sell things like this outside of the main package. I have never seen these at Party City but if they were to sell them I would imagine they would be in the section with the candy and seasonal treats and would cost about a quarter a piece. That's great if you only need a couple but if you need more than a dozen, getting the larger bag from Oriental Trading is definitely the way to go. I really liked having these for the treat bags that I made up as well as for something sweet and fruity to have in my backpack. They do have a slightly chalky center to them but the overall flavor is better than I expected. If you are considering ordering these you might want to get some small stickers to add to the packages since they are plain. ================== ^V^ © 2009 Freak369 ^V^ ================== Scary Skeleton Candy Coffins Zachary Candy Corn Packets Trashy Tasty Treat Gummies Dr. Scab's Monster Lab Chocolate Spooky Monsters Halloween Popcorn Mini Bags
