Pros: Focuses on REAL issues that we can relate to - not the repetitive love stuff.
Cons: Even In Death and Eternal could have been better thought out in terms of instrumentation.
The Bottom Line: Full of meaningful lyrics. Hardly any flaws. Issues they write about are real; we can relate. They don't just write about the usual repetitive soppy love stuff. HIGHLY recommended.

| imaginary_80s's Full Review: Origin - Evanescence Movies |
The Evanescence EP that came before Origin was short but sweet, and perhaps Evanescence's most memorable song, Imaginary, has been on all 3 of their proper albums. The Origin version of Imaginary is the best though. I like this album... I don't speak English very well so bare with me.
1. ORIGIN
"You hold the answers deep within your own mind... Death in its most hideous form" - These are the only words on this track and they are spoken, not sung.
This track is scary to begin with, and quite random. It builds tension up for the second track which follows on immediately. It's really a very interesting intro.
2. WHISPER
I think the first verse of this song sounded better on Fallen, because on here I really don't like the faded effect they used, it makes it difficult to make out the words (but maybe that's just me). This song is -VERY- catchy and is bound to stay in your head. You'll know the words of the chorus off by heart after listening to it just once. I'd say the Fallen version of this song is much better - but when I had only heard the Origin version, I thought it was fantastic, and my favourite song on the album.
3. IMAGINARY
The most significant Evanescence song, and my favourite English song of all time. The lyrics are beautiful and poetic, and the instrumentation varies without cluttering the song and making it sound untidy. This song reminds me of a clip that I saw on TV once of a young girl kneeling by a grave and staring at the sky, crying and singing a prayer. There is a part in this song that they didn't include in the Fallen version - the bit where Amy is singing the "aaahhhhhhhh" bit in the middle, very beautifully, even if it is a very computerised sound.
4. MY IMMORTAL
Yes, it's ANOTHER song that they also put on Fallen. This song is very soothing. I think that the lyrics are very well thought out in the verses, but the main part of the chorus was focused more on just making it rhyme rather than having meaning: "When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears, when you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears, and I've held your hand through all of these years". I suppose this is quite well done though. I like this version better than the Fallen version, because they put violins on the Fallen version that, to me, spoil the song.
5. WHERE WILL YOU GO?
The first 7 seconds of this song make you think it's going to be a slow, sad song, but then it really picks up and actually made me jump! I can really relate to the lyrics of this song. I think they were trying to explain how people will always put on a front rather than just being themselves in every situation - much like the song Everybody's Fool on Fallen. To me, this song makes me think about the kids in school who really try to be hard, but in reality they're very sad and insecure. This song is like Amy is teasing them about it, and saying well, when you're older you won't be able to escape this image you've created, and people will see you as the heartless person you made yourself out to be, and you'll be "left to face yourself alone". But that's just my interpretation.
6. FIELD OF INNOCENCE
I was in love with this song for a while, but I know it back to front now so it's not as amazing as it once was. I think it has very well chosen intrumentation which suits the story of the song well. I think this song is about how Amy has realised that as she's got older, she's seen the world differently (as we all do, so we can all relate to this song). As a child, you see the world completely differently, you don't judge people because .. well you just don't, and you have no serious problems or depressing issues. Amy wishes she could go back to her innocent childhood days, not because she regrets anything particular, but because she now knows what an ugly place this world is, and she never saw it that way when she was a child. I understand this song, but it's hard for me to put into words the true meaning. You have to hear it. She sounds so sad singing this song.
7. EVEN IN DEATH
I don't really like this song much. It's my least favourite on this album. I think the lyrics are very confusing and probably quickly thrown together. There is no real structure to this song, and it's actually boring. No other comment.
8. ANYWHERE
I love to sing this song, it's not particularly interesting or catchy, but it's peaceful. The words have true meaning. My interpretation is this: There's a girl who's in love with a guy that nobody seems to approve of, and only she can see his true colours. She wants him to run away with her and forget about what everyone thinks of them being together, because it really doesn't matter. She wants them to live in their own world, with nobody judging them. It's really, really a GENIUS song. The lyrics aren't really moving or anything but it's a nice thing to write a song about.
9. LIES
There's a remixed version of this song which really isn't great (although it has better lyrics), so make sure if you're downloading it that you get the right version - this is the one with Amy doing her "ahh" bit at the very beginning. I really can't figure out the meaning of this song, but it's probably the strongest song on the album, it really sucks you in. I think that this song made me realise that a LOT of Evanescence's songs include a hint of "you don't know the true me, you don't know what it's like!" feeling in them. I think they like to say that it's all such a hard and complicated life but then they always manage to describe the problems well.
10. AWAY FROM ME
I haven't really studied the lyrics closely on this song. The chorus is amazingly great and I've just been rewinding that part over and over and playing it LOUD! I really do love this song. It's a good song to end the album on (I know it's not the last song but it's the last one with words), because it's like a conclusion to the album. It's like "ok, I've explained my issues, and there's nothing I can do about them, so please just kill me". Or something along those lines, like she's struggling to keep going and she's just run out of energy now - she's reached her end.
11. ETERNAL
The sound of rainfall is THE most calming, soothing sound on earth, to me. I put this song on repeat some nights to put me to sleep. It really is beautiful, but I think it would have been even nicer if they'd put some sounds like rainforest animals on it - you know the kind I mean. Those soothing echoing bird voices and faint cuckoo noises. But yeah, I like this song, it makes a good outro. I just think they could have made it better if they'd tried.
12. LISTEN TO THE RAIN (Outtake)
More rainfall to begin with, but then goes into a choir singing. I think this song is pointless, but still very soothing. There's no story to it; the choir just sings about how you should always remember to listen to the rain. If I didn't know better, I could swear that this song is NOT by Evanescence, because you can't hear Amy singing anywhere. Don't bother downloading this song.
