| melissasrn's Full Review: Origins Balanced Diet |
Up until a few months ago, I had very oily skin that was constantly shiny and prone to those unattractive blemishes I thought only teenagers were supposed to get. At the time, I used a thin layer of Origins Matte Scientist under my make-up, which is a light moisturizer containing salicylic acid designed for oily skin. But back in the spring, I began seeing a dermatologist out of desperation and began taking generic Accutane (called Amnesteem). As a result, my skin is no longer oily anymore!! So as my moisturizing needs changed, I decided to try this Origins Balanced Diet after reading many positive reviews about this lightweight moisture lotion created for combination skin types. Over the past 2 years, I've tried many Origins products with great results, and this time is no different. Read on to find out more about this highly recommended skin care product.
~~~The Moisturizer~~~
As mentioned above, this Origins Balanced Diet is designed for those with combination skin types to keep skin hydrated without heavy ingredients that can sometimes clog pores. According to product advertising: When skin is not the same all over, it's hard to feed your needs. Nature's nutritionists provide precise portion control to be sure that skin "eats" smart. Wheat and Soy Protein deliver lightweight liquid nourishment where needed to soften and soothe dry zones without weighing down T-zones. Konjac Powder soaks up sebum, and only sebum, and leaves no leftovers to shine a face up. And Glucosamine refreshes skin texture, refines fine lines. Skin that's oily here, dry there feels fresher, smoother everywhere. The moisturizer itself is white in color and is a bit thicker in consistency than the rather thin Matte Scientist is. It has a really funky fragrance though (must be the lavender), which has taken me awhile to get used to. So when skin can be dry yet acne prone at the same time, this Origins Balanced Diet does a great job at moisturizing where needed without clogging pores or creating an oily look.
~~~Packaging & Price~~~
Each 1.7 ounce (50ml) small green recyclable bottle of this Origins Balanced Diet may be purchased at the Origins counter of your favorite department store or online at www.origins.com for $19.50. I really don't care much for the glass packaging Origins likes to use with many of their products, but so far I've not broken one yet! The rounded jar contains a open top with a screw-on white lid, so be careful when pouring out this moisturizer as it's very easy to use too much. The packaging is identical to what Matte Scientist comes in as only the product labeling is different. Used for daily wear under my foundation, my bottle of this Origins Balanced Diet has lasted a few months already and I still have at least 1/4 of the moisturizer left. So a little definitely goes a long way, which makes the initial high price a better value over time.
~~~My Experience~~~
According to the short yet sweet directions for use found on each glass bottle of this Origins Balanced Diet: Apply to clean skin. Can be used AM and PM. To provide daily moisture either worn alone or under your make-up, this is a great lightweight choice for users with combination skin types as it hydrates drier areas along with the oilier ones without causing breakouts. Only people with super oily skin may find this moisturizer to be too heavy as I know it would have been too much for me just a few months ago. Then again, those with aging or dry skin may find this lightweight formula doesn't provide enough moisture for their needs and should choose a heavier product. So for my skin's changing needs, I've found this Origins Balanced Diet really does provide the balanced moisture my face currently needs.
~~~Overall Recommendation~~~
If you have combination skin and are looking for a lightweight moisturizer, then this Origins Balanced Diet is a great choice! Even though the strong, floral fragrance takes awhile to get used to, the moisturizer itself glides over my clean face smoothly and fully absorbs in just a few seconds. There's no SPF, however, so keep this in mind as you may want to pick up an SPF containing foundation instead. I've used Origins skin care products on and off for a few years now, and I've seldom been disappointed. While I really do prefer Matte Scientist's scent and texture better, the moisture it provides just isn't enough anymore for my changing skin type. So as a replacement, I'm learning to enjoy this Origins Balanced Diet instead. Request a sample today to see if this skin care product is compatible with your skin type as well. Good luck and stay beautiful :-)
