Pros: Refreshingly cleans pores of excess oil and dirt with clay ingredients.
Cons: Offensive scent; runny "string like" consistency; unattractive green color.
The Bottom Line: While it does an effective cleansing job for those with oily skin, I cannot recommend Origins Liquid Clay because of its horrible scent and nasty appearance/consistency.

| melissasrn's Full Review: Origins Liquid Clay |
The inevitable has finally happened! After being introduced to the Origins line of fine, high quality skin care products a few months ago, I have found one particular cleanser designed for oily skin that I just do not care for at all. Since I usually order online because the closest Origins counter is approximately an hours's drive away, I have been ordering new products to try in their expensive, full sized portions and have been quite lucky so far in finding skin care products that are very effective and that I absolutely adore. Until now. For recently, I purchased some Origins Liquid Clay foaming cleanser and now I must painfully admit that I have discovered an Origins product that I just cannot highly recommend with a clear conscious. Read on to find out why.
~~~The Product~~~
Origins Liquid Clay is a foaming cleansing product for the face and body designed for users with oily skin types. To deep clean pores and prevent pimples with a refreshing burst of Australian Eucalyptus and French Green Clay, this slimy green product that frankly smells like dirt gently lathers to produce a whole new kind of clean those with oily skin especially are in search of. While the Sage ingredient purifies and the Ylang Ylang soothes the skin, this foaming cleanser claims to lure out deep-dwelling grime, oils, skin-dulling flakes and all sorts of excesses. True to these advertising promises, I must confess that Origins Liquid Clay does an excellent job in cleansing oily skin without leaving it feeling dry and tight afterwards like many other similar products designed for this skin type often do. Only it's "string like" consistency, nasty green color, and offensive fragrance makes using this cleanser not very desirable to me at all. For if a beauty product stinks as this one does, I certainly am not motivated to use it on a regular basis.
~~~Packaging & Price~~~
Each average sized 5 ounce (150 ml) tube of Origins Liquid Clay foaming cleanser designed for oily skin may be purchased at your favorite fine department store featuring an Origins counter or online at www.origins.com for a whopping $16.50 plus tax and/or shipping where applicable. Because no sales tax is charged to my account when ordering online since I do not live in the state of New York and because I only order online with "free shipping" codes, purchasing this skin care product wasn't quite so expensive as it could have been had I bought it physically in the store. A sample in this case though would of been the better choice financially as even though I plan to use all of this cleanser eventually, I certainly will not be buying another inverted "flip-top" tube anytime soon. Packaged in a sage colored plastic container with the opening located at the bottom, this tube of Origins Liquid Clay makes dispensing of this cleanser somewhat easy and will easily rest upright near your bathroom sink for convenient usage. Only it is what's inside that makes me NOT want to reach for this skin care product when it comes time to wash my face.
~~~Directions for Use~~~
According to the package directions found on the side of each tube of Origins Liquid Clay: Swirl over skin. Instantly pores say ahhh! to a refreshing burst of Australian Eucalyptus. Add a splash of water and the aroma-rich cream turns into a gently foaming lather. Skin basks in bubbles. Splash off, and feel a whole new kind of clean. Usually, it only takes a tiny amount of Origins cleansers to produce a foamy lather and is sometimes easy to use too much. But I find I need to use more of this cleanser as it just doesn't lather well on wet skin. In my experience, a large portion of this cleanser drips off my fingertips in "string like" sections into my sink (and even onto my clothing!) while attempting to spread it around a bit before applying to my face. Here I am trying to retrieve as much of the wasted product out of my sink as I can (Hey! This stuff is expensive!), which ends up being virtually impossible because of its slimy consistency. Only when I finally have enough cleanser inside my fingertips can I eventually wash my face. The lather produced by Origins Liquid Clay is adequate, but does not fit my description of what foamy is supposed to look and feel like. However, it does rinse clean away and leaves the skin feeling refreshed (yet certainly not pleasantly scented!) and soft, not dry and tight as some other cleansers designed for oily skin types often do.
~~~Ingredients~~~
Water (Aqua Purificata) Purified, Montmorillonite, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Peg-7 Gylceryl Cocoate, Eucalyptus Globulus (Eucalyptus), Saliva Officinalis (Sage), Cananga Odorata (Ylang Ylang) Essential Oils, Cocamide Mea, Cocoglucoside, Glyceryl Oleate, Sodium Chloride, Citric Acid, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone (iln22000).
~~~Overall Recommendation~~~
While Origins Liquid Clay does do an adequate job in cleansing the pores of deep down dirt and oil as it claims, I just cannot recommend this skin care product because of the offensive "dirt" like smell, the nasty green color, and most of all, the complicated and wasteful application process as described above. I truly thought that the unique Eucalyptus fragrance would grow on me over time or that I would at least learn to tolerate it, but I find myself holding my breath every time I (quickly!) use it now so that smell won't be so overwhelming. For those with oily skin types that are unsure and think this cleanser might still be worth a try, I'd certainly suggest saving your money initially and requesting a sample at your local Origins counter first! Even though it is designed for combination skin, a much better recommended alternative with a much more pleasant fragrance that foams easily with just a small amount used every time is the Origins Checks and Balances. So while I am sure that I'll eventually use of my current tube of Origins Liquid Clay eventually, especially during the summer months when my oil glands go into overdrive, I will not be buying another tube any time soon. Purchase with care and make sure this product is for you before investing your money.
