| kleighb's Full Review: Origins Salt Rub |
Origins Salt Rub was my first exposure to Origins, a primarily natural-ingredient line of personal care products.
With the little time I have in my day to relax and stop time, bathing has become one of my most sacred rituals. I love to experiment with products which bring the spa experience into my bath, and greatly benefit my skin and senses. Most of us can't afford to go to the spa and get weekly, or even monthly rub-downs. So this product is a perfect way to have an at-home spa experience. After all, I can't remember the last time I went to the spa. I think it was years ago...
Salt rubs are one of my favorite ways to pamper myself and *dramatically* improve the texture and moisture level of my skin.
To use, I employ the services of a tablespoon, which I keep on the shelf near my bathtub. I mix the product slightly, and then massage a tablespoon at a time into my entire body, paying special attention to my legs, rear-end and arms. I sometimes use a sponge, but your hands work just fine. The salt used in the Rub is of a fine texture, but if you rub too hard, it can be somewhat irritating! After I have thoroughly massaged the product in, I sit back down in the tub to rinse it off. I have not yet used this product in the shower, as I have a single shower, and it is hard to go through the motions in it...
I always use a salt rub before self tanning, as it is the perfect way to get an even bottled tan. I use the salt rub approximately once a week, and combine it with other pampering rituals, such as facial masques, at-home eyebrow waxing, and mini manicures or pedicures. It has become a Sunday night ritual.
Origin's salt rub does have synthetic preservatives, which I wish were not in there- parabens. These ingredients can be potentially irritants to those with sensitive skin or chemical sensitivities. Luckily, I have never had a problem specifically with parabens.
Also, sea salt can be irritating to sensitive skin. And I don't suggest shaving before or after using a sea salt scrub. It stings! If you are sensitive to sea salt, and still want to try a product like this, I suggest you look into one of the new "brown sugar scrubs", made with turbinado sugar and emollient oils.
I also enjoyed the exhilarating scent of this product. It is somewhat energizing, so I almost recommend that this product be used in the morning as a wake-up call, as opposed to a relaxing evening bath.
This product is priced on the high side, which is my general feeling with Origins products. I guess you are paying a lot of $ for the nice frosted glass jar this product comes in. It's not as if the salt, oil and essential oils used in this product are pricey. You could easily make this product at home!
I purchased mine online at Origins.com, along with several other pampering items. (everything arrived quickly and in excellent condition). You can also find Origins product counters by doing a search on their website for a store in your area.
I recommend it, if you have the $. Otherwise, try making it yourself for a mere fraction of the cost. With sea salt (or table salt) sweet almond oil, and 10-20 drops of your favorite essential oils, you can save big bucks. And it will work just as well. I promise!
