PIMPLES. I even hate the word.
I take meticulous care of my skin. I cleanse, exfoliate, hydroxyize and moisturize. I do everything I can to keep my complexion in good shape, and it works, most of the time. But no matter what I do, I can't seem to stop those once-a-month, PMS zits from paying me a visit a few times a year.
Over the years, I've tried a number of products to get rid of them. When I was younger, I was convinced that if I used the right cleansers and toners I wouldn't get any pimples at all. Finally I realized that they were inevitable, and that what I needed instead, was an effective treatment to minimize the redness and size of the pimple as soon as it began to show up.
About a year ago, I discovered Origins Spot Remover. I had been using a number of Origins' products, and since I was so happy with them, I decided to see how Spot Remover works.
About Origins
Origins is owned and was created by Estee Lauder. Their philosophy is to provide pure, natural products that smell great, work great, and make you feel great. This means products made with aromatic essential oils, botanical extracts, and the most natural of ingredients. They are also environmentally responsible, using a minimal amount of packaging, no animal testing, and no animal ingredients
What is Spot Remover?
Spot Remover is a light, clear, gel, which was created to shrink and heal acne blemishes. It goes on quickly with a light dab or two of the product, and dries usually unnoticed. Occasionally it will leave a bit of a residue, which looks the way Elmer's school glue does if it dries on your hands. This is easily brushed off once completely dry, without removing the effects of the product.
How Does Spot Remover Work?
Now I'm no scientist, or even a cosmetologist, but after a little research, and a conversation with my local Origin's salesperson, this is what I have come up with.
Now before you can really understand how an acne product works, you need to know all the gory details of exactly what a pimple is. Basically, extra oil combines with dead skin cells and clogs your pores. Bacteria then forms in the pores, causing red, inflamed bumps, filled with a small amount of pus.
Spot Remover has three ingredient which work to eliminate what causes the pimple, and to clear it up.
~ Salicylic Acid - Originally derived from natural products, and now also synthetically produced in laboratories, salicylic acid works deep within the skin's surface to unclog pores, remove dead cells and other gunk, and dry up the excess oil, as soon as possible. Salicylic acid is used in many top acne products on the market today, and is a proven acne fighter.
~Clove Buds - Clove buds, most commonly used in toothache medicine, is known to fight the bacteria below the pimples surface, getting at the source of the inflammation and redness. The sooner the bacteria is gone, the sooner the pimple can heal.
~Oregano - Oregano is another herb know for its bacteria fighting properties. It also has a soothing effect on the skin.
Price
Spot Remover comes in a small, clear plastic bottle. It is $10.00 for .3 ounces. You don't get much, but I have found that you need use only a drop or two with each application, so it lasts a very long time.
Where You Can Buy Spot Remover
Origins is available at individual stores and many large Department stores. You can locate the store nearest you at http://www.origins.com/locate/index.html, or you can shop online at www.origins.com.
The Verdict
My experience with Spot Remover has been a good one. I apply it faithfully, a couple of times a day, at the first sign of a breakout. Within a couple of hours, I can begin to notice a difference. It continues to work quickly, and the pimple is usually almost completely gone within a day or two.
The only down side to this product is that the salicylic acid can dry the breakout too much, leaving you with a small patch of dry, peeling skin. I have found that this too is gone within a day or two, and is much easier to conceal than a big, ugly pimple.
Spot Remover is a keeper.
