| lauren_m's Full Review: Origins Swept Away |
If I don't use some sort of facial scrub every day, my skin just doesn't feel clean. But if I use a harsh scrub, my skin is perpetually blotchy and raw. My face gives me very little middle ground.
I used to use Freeman's Apricot Scrub, but I could only use it every other day--and if I scrubbed too hard, it felt like I was grinding pebbles into my cheeks. That stuff costs $5 a tube; economical, I suppose, but what's the value of a worthless end result?
So, this Christmas, I decided to ask for a really nice facial scrub. After trying a number of free samples from other upscale skincare lines, I settled on Origins Swept Away. I have tried a number of Origins products before, and have never been disappointed--this stuff is no exception.
Swept Away is the finest scrub I've ever used. I mean that in two senses: first of all, the stuff is great; second, the grains are extremely fine, yet they manage to remove all that flaky skin and smooth the texture of my face.
Pros:
1. Leaves no scent behind! The product is almost unscented--it smells very fresh and light when you take a whiff of the product out of the tube, but leaves no odor on your skin.
2. Rinses clean, easily. I hate it when I have to rinse for five minutes in order to remove all the scrub grains from my face--fortunately, with Swept Away, that never happens. The grains are so fine that they rinse off in a flash when I'm in the shower; if I use the product at a sink, it takes a little longer, but that's the breaks.
3. Gentle in every sense. Yeah, yeah, yeah--I've gotten it in my eyes a few times, and again, it rinses quickly and easily, and doesn't make my eyes itchy and red.
My skin tends to flare up and get irritated with a lot of products, but I've never felt a hint of burning or irritation with Swept Away, even on days when I get an eyebrow wax--that's my true test ;) .
4. A little goes a long way. I rarely use more than a dime-sized amount of Swept Away, and unless you haven't exfoliated your face in a week, I doubt you'll have to. The product distributes nicely over your face, and you can get a lot of mileage out of one little dime-sized drop.
5. Leaves my skin noticeably radiant. Like any good scrub should, Swept Away gives my skin a healthy glow. No big red blotches; no adverse reactions-- just fresh-looking, healthy skin.
And, because nothing is perfect, a
Con:
1. Oh My Expensive! At $16 a tube, Swept Away is one of the pricier facial scrubs on the market. The tube is not large, so if you're a daily exfoliator like me, you're going to be buying a tube a month.
However, the price really is justified--the scrub works equally well on my sensitive/oily skin, and my sister's sensitive/dry skin, and that's rare. Also, it's one of the cheaper high-end scrubs on the market. Depending on your budget, it's a splurge, but it's a big step up from drugstore brands.
My highest recommendation goes to Origins Swept Away--go grab yourself a sample packet today!
