| melissasrn's Full Review: Origins Zero Oil |
On February 2, 2002, three fellow Epinionators and I met for the first time at the Origins counter of a very busy East Tennessee mall for an afternoon dedicated to shopping for Beauty products. While chrisceb, shantel575, and KMINER were already quite familiar with many of the great skin care products that could be found at this particular counter, I myself was clueless as to what kinds of products I might find there. The very courteous and knowledgeable sales clerk devoted several moments to each of our own individualized skin care needs one at a time, and we all made our choices based upon her very helpful recommendations. One product that caught my attention almost immediately was the Origins Zero Oil as I've been dealing with oily skin since my early teenage years. My powdered nose doesn't stand a chance very long and becomes shiny in only an hour after my make-up is first applied. So anything that would help to keep my foundation looking fresh longer sounded like something I'd be willing to try. But at $10 for this very small bottle, my cheap, skeptical side and I decided that this stuff had better be good or I knew three certain people who would be in BIG trouble if my purchase turned out to be a waste of money! Looking back, I now realize I should of had more faith, for thanks to my three online pals, I am totally and hopelessly addicted.
~~~The Product~~~
Origins Zero Oil is designed to provide an instant matte finish for those annoying shiny places that inevitably develop on our faces. Containing many natural ingredients to help keep oily skin under better control, master-mattifiers, including oil-foiling Silicates, astringent Winterbloom, plus calming Chinese Camphor instantly zero in on skin-spoiling oil and blot up greasy shine without overdrying. A smooth and invisible matte finish is created by simply applying a few small drops of this product to the forehead, chin, and nose under or over your make-up. I personally use it before applying my foundation so I'm not really sure how well it might work when applied afterwards. It takes only a few small drops each time and fully dries to a smooth matte finish in moments. Now instead of looking oily and shiny just an hour or two after applying my make-up, I don't notice the shine until at least five or six hours and sometimes even longer now. So even though Origins Zero Oil does not truly provide an all day matte finish for me as advertised, it sure does keep my face looking fresher longer than before.
~~~Packaging & Price~~~
Each rather small .64 fluid ounce (18 ml) clear plastic bottle of Origins Zero Oil may be purchased at the Origins counter found inside many fine department stores or at their website for a hefty $10.00. The small beige colored box it is contained inside is made from 20% post-consumer recycled materials with simple yet attractive dark green print. The bottle itself contains a large round screw on lid and is mostly rectangular in shape. The thin liquid found inside must be shaken before use as the main ingredients tend to obviously settle at the bottom. This white substance has a very faint fragrance to it that is somewhat pleasant to the senses. Only I am quite disappointed in the bottle's opening as it becomes very easy to squeeze out too much of this product at once during the application process. A drop or two at a time of Origins Zero Oil is all that is needed, yet I have accidentally squeezed out much more than that several times if I'm not very careful to avoid any waste.
~~~Directions for Use~~~
Shake well before use to thoroughly mix the ingredients, and then apply a few drops of Origins Zero Oil to shine prone areas of the face before or over make-up as desired. As I stated previously, I apply a few drops to the shine prone areas of my face and allow it to dry before applying my foundation as usual. If too much is used, my face will have a white tint to it but this has no effect on the look of my makeup after I am through. My foundation glides on easily over the smooth matte finish left behind after blotting a few drops of Origins Zero Oil onto my face with my fingers. The time and effort involved is minimal, yet the results are quite noticeable to me. While I do still get those shiny places five or six hours after doing my make-up, I no longer look oily in just one or two hours as before. Those extra few hours of fresher looking coverage are certainly worth it every time I chose to prime my face with this unique little skin care product that effectively absorbs much of the excess oil my face seems to constantly produce.
~~~Ingredients~~~
Winterbloom (hamamelis virginiana) infusion, sodium magnesium silicate, chinese camphor (cinnamomum camphora), caffeine, oleth-10, polysorbate 40, butylene glycol, sodium chloride, natural xanthan gum, trisodium edta, citric acid, phenoxyethanol, methyl, ethyl, propyl and butylparaben (iln 10134).
~~~Overall Recommendation~~~
With spring and warmer temperatures on the way soon, help control those unattractive shiny areas on your face by picking up a bottle of Origins Zero Oil at your favorite mall department store today. Oily skin is kept under control longer with the smooth matte finish left behind when this product is used on clean skin as a base to your normal foundation. Admittedly expensive in price initially, it only takes a few drops to cover those shine prone areas to produce an oil free zone that will last for hours. Those with only mildly oily skin types may even get a greater shine free period than I do and may indeed get those all day results as advertised when this thin, white liquid is used as directed. So when those overzealous oil glands crank into overdrive resulting in a sometimes unavoidable shiny glow, which in turn increases the frequency and severity of facial breakouts and blemishes, reach for your Origins Zero Oil and blot that oil away almost instantly. I'm so happy that I gave this product a fair shot, and chances are, you will be pleased with the favorable results too!
