Now that summer has come upon us we get the opportunity to see winters plans come to fruition. It’s a time for rebuilding and revisiting the perils of past summers, like pests!
I came home this week to the protestations of my wife about bees getting into the house. It’s not like I haven’t seen this one before, it tells me that I have to check the seals around my fireplace. There’s a spot in the corner that seems to need repointing every 5-6 years, but I always forget and have to get the rude awakening!
After addressing the issue with bees, it’ll be ants and stink bugs so I have get out my trusty product, Ortho Home Defense Max and hit all the usual points of entry, an exercise that I’ll repeat annually as the product stays on the job for 12 months, warding off common insects like ants, insects, crickets as well as a host of others. The non-staining formula is especially appreciated by my wife who claims Stevie Wonder would do a better job of keeping the product off the drapes or her valued rugs.
Ortho Home Defense Max, in a gallon size comes with a hose and trigger which makes it extraordinarily easy to target specific areas of your home where bugs pop up. After you’re finished, simply put the product away in the bottles side carrier, at the ready for next use.
Care has to be exercised with Ortho Home Defense Max, for while we may think of it as an ally product; this stuff can have harmful results if handled improperly! Remove your pets and clear counter tops, tables of all consumable foods or items that can become contaminated, take your pets for a walk or place them in unaffected areas until Ortho Home Defense Max dries, then come in and wipe down all surfaces that could possibly have traces of the product, which can become airborne, off.
I am a little put off by the fact that Ortho Home Defense Max does little to kill Black Widows and Brown Recluse spiders, both of which I have seen. Having a basement is a concern when it comes to spiders so I treat the basement with another product that specifically targets spiders. Ants are always a problem but this is one of the products we turn to when they start to become problematic.
Ortho Home Defense Max Insect Killer claims to be odor free but there is a persistent, though slight trace of scent left with the application of this product, a small, though not insignificant failure of the claim. I have a problem with keeping a lot of volatile chemicals in the home and store them all in my shop/garage. The only saving grace is that Ortho Home Defense Max Insect Killer does work effectively indoors, There, may be other products that work in and out doors and address the spider issue, but I haven’t been inclined to experiment. So far I’m happy with Ortho Home Defense Max Insect Killer and have come to rely on their claim to keep insects out for up to twelve months; so far, so good!
