KMINER's Full Review: Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo 1 oz
I frequently can be found obsessing about my hair. And one of this year's obsessions has been how often I wash it and with what products. I was really trying to get away with not having to wash my hair daily for multiple reasons. One of the tips that I read about was to try and use a "dry" shampoo in between washings. Going on-line and doing some reading at various beauty sites, I saw over and over again that a product called Oscar Blandi Pronto DryShampoo was recommended. I needed to find out more about it. So I researched it and bought it. I've spent the last 5 months trying this product in various ways in attempts to determine if the product is a good match for me.
I happened to be making a trip out of town to an Ulta store, and picked up a 1 oz bottle for the price of $11. This particular product comes as a powder or a spray powder, and I elected for the powder sold in the 1 oz tube. I purchased this size and type for a reason - I had read many reviews that felt the spray powder wasn't an economical choice and that it was harder to control the amount that came out. I felt $11 was a good investment.
A Dry What?
Isn't that the whole point of a shampoo -you wet your hair, lather, and rinse? And if you use typical "shampoo skills" with this product I am afraid you will have a big mess! Possibly a more fitting name would be "fancy baby powder to take away the greasies!" ... but that doesn't really have a good marketing ring to it does it now?

My 1 oz Oscar Blandi Pronto DryShampoo came in a slender white plastic tube bottle with tip. It has some yellow lettering. The whole bottle is very, very lightweight. You have to turn the bottle upside down and shake and lightly squeeze the product out. It comes out as a fine, soft powder, not unlike baby powder. It is scented with lemon verbena - which is a sharp lemony scent.
There was a small part of me that was hoping this really was a miracle product, that I could rub a little into my hair in the mornings and have freshly washed hair! Most of me knew though that more realistically I might be getting a product that would help combat some of my main problems - daily washing and oily roots.
Me - Hair Profile
My hair is a slightly layered bob with bangs. My hair color is typically medium brown with some blond highlights. At age 36 it still tends to want to get oily roots and hang sort of limply, especially if I don't wash it daily. I often find myself washing my hair most work days so that I have the style and look that I am happy with. On days I don't wash my hair, it has to go up in a ponytail or clip. I feel though that this isn't overall healthy for my hair, and I'd love to be able to wash my hair every other day.
Ways I Tried
Well even the best on-line readers still have to go through their own trial and error ... when they actually go to use the product. The bottle states you can apply this directly to the roots. Don't. The bottle is crazy.
This stuff, as mentioned, comes out like a fine powder. It is very noticeable when applied to the hair. Any white powder would be. When applied directly to the scalp this stuff is very hard to rub in. You can try and comb or brush it through (probably your best bet if you've already decided to apply it to the scalp directly) or else you can have white powder in your hair all day. It makes for a lot of work unless you plan to really brush out your hair. If nothing else works and you've overdone it, you can try blow drying your hair to get the powder to disperse.
Thankfully (though I did try it a few times by applying it directly just because I had to!) I had read on-line other ways to apply this product. Many suggested squeezing out a little powder into your hands and then rubbing or massaging into the hair. I found this works best by using the powder in small amounts and applying it directly onto your fingertips, as opposed to the palms of your hands. Envision if you will a sort of massage with your fingertips. You can apply just to your hairline or to any part of the roots where you might need to combat oil.
Less is more. You can totally "add" more product, but it is really hard to take away excess powder once it's in your hair. I strongly suggest taking little pats of powder at a time until you are used to how much it might take to take the oilies away.
This product works the best on my bangs and top of my head where my part is. It really absorbs the oil instantly and gives the hair a nice "lift". I typically use this first thing in the morning of the second day, the day I don't wash my hair. I wouldn't go so far as to say that using Oscar Blandi Pronto DryShampoo takes the place of washing my hair. If I have a special event or day, the best thing is still for me to wash my hair and style as usual. So this product did not "revolutionize" the way I do my hair.
What Oscar Blandi Pronto DryShampoo did do was make my hair, for the first time, be able to go for a day without washing. Typically on the days I use this product are also days that I wear my hair in a ponytail or partly up in a barrette or clip. On most workdays I still wash my hair and style as usual. Usually one day each week (I work Mon - Fri) I will use this product and not wash my hair. But on the weekends and on vacations, summer breaks and what not I do go every other day with washing my hair and using this product. It is also an excellent product if for some reason you cannot wash your hair - hospital stays, camping trips, and the like. Finally, I've used this product at times when I've washed and dried and styled my hair with other products that made my hair too greasy - it was a life saver when I once tried a "protein spray" directly on my hair!
Yes, the lemon scent can remind you a little of Pledge. Yes, it does fade. No it doesn't interfere with any other scent (lotion or perfume) I am wearing - but if you walk into my bathroom as I am using it, or just after, you will smell this. Yes, you can use too much. Yes, it can be overkill and you may have to wash your hair anyways. Yes, you will quickly get the hang of this. No, you don't walk around with white junk in your hair and people won't stare at you. Yes, it washes out easily. Yes, you can apply more of it later in the day if you need. Yes, you can carry this size with you.
Summary Oscar Blandi Pronto DryShampoo is a product I will not be without. I think it works like nothing else I have tried and is a reasonable price for what I got and what I use it for. I love that I now have a hair resource to combat when my hair gets oily that doesn't involve having to wash my hair! Not every day in my life is a "photographic" day, so I don't need to have every hair perfect. I teach work days and run around with my 3 children all the time in between. So it's nice to know that I can quickly apply something to my hair, put it up, and go somewhere with my family and not feel like I am one of "those" women who walk around like they didn't do their hair!
