Oster Toaster Oven

A month ago I purchased this Oster 6085 Toaster Oven at a moving sale. It was only $20.00 and looked brand new. I asked if they had the users manual, and they showed me that there was one inside the oven.
Unfortunately, when I got home the manual went to another brand of toaster oven! All was not lost, I was able to visit the Oster website where I downloaded and printed out a users manual. I wanted to use this for baking pot pies, but Banquet pot pies say they can not be prepared in a toaster oven, so that was a disappointment. Still, I have been able to use it in many other ways! Appearance I love the look of this oven, it is made of stainless steel and it matches my other appliances perfectly. It has a very modern look and the handle is extremely sturdy. The oven measures 18 1/2" wide, 11 3/4" high and 11 1/2" deep. Functions The control pad is a touch control pad, and works much like the pad on our microwave. The control buttons are: Oven - select to bake Convection Broil Toast - bread, bagels, etc. Pizza - select 9"-12" pizzas Dehydrate Defrost AV - to adjust time, temp and toast shade Timer/Tem Clock Lamp - turns on interior light Stop/Cancel - stops cooking or cancels functions Start My Experience I baked Bagel Bites in this oven today for lunch. It only took 5 minutes for the oven to preheat to 400 degrees. It takes much longer than that when I preheat my large gas range. The Oster Toaster Oven gives off a low level beeping sound when the oven is preheated. I can't hear it from the next room, so that may be a problem for me down the road. One thing I don't like is that the digital display does not count up to the temperature like my large oven does, so I never know for sure how much longer the preheating will take. Still, it's faster. The oven came with a removable wire rack, a baking pan and a broiling rack. There are three rack positions, but I used the middle one, placing 4 Bagel Bites on the baking pan (which looks like a miniature cookie sheet.) The baking pan is fairly non-stick and it has a deep edge on it. It will hold four large slices of bread. The oven temperature and baking time are easy to set by using the up and down arrows. I can even shorten or lengthen cooking time, in progress, by pushing the up and down arrows! My Bagel Bites came out tasting very good. They were crispy on the tops and bottoms, and they tasted just as good as when I bake them in my large oven. Toast comes out nicely, but it takes longer to toast bread in this oven than it does in our 4 slice toaster, so I don't use it for toast very often. When foods are done the oven emits 4 fast beeps, and it will repeat until the cancel button is pushed. The beeps aren't annoyingly loud like they are with my microwave. The oven browns toast evenly, and it will bake a 9-10 inch pizza, but despite what Oster claims, the oven is not 12" deep. Some pizzas that say they are 12" aren't really quite that size, and those will fit in the toaster oven. Frozen pizza comes out great in this oven, and I prefer this cooking method because the bottom of the crust gets crispy. We like to buy frozen chocolate chip cookies at Costco, and this small oven is perfect when we want to bake a small batch, like a dozen cookies. I don't have to heat up my large oven, and the cookies come out perfect! I also like to use the broil function to broil a bagel with cheese. The bagel comes out nicely toasted and the cheese gets bubbly on top. I have not used this oven for dehydrating or defrosting. During the cooking process the outside of the oven gets VERY hot to the touch. Cleaning The outer surface is easy to clean using a microfiber cloth. It has a brushed stainless look, but it is not real stainless because magnets don't stick to it. The door is glass, so you can easily see through it, and the outside cleans easily with some Windex or a hot dishcloth. A nylon scrubber cleans the interior (I don't like to use cleaning chemicals inside my oven.) There is a very sturdy crumb drawer that can be pulled out and emptied, and the drawer and oven racks can be washed in the top of a dishwasher. Warranty This is a Sunbeam product, and it has a one year warranty. Final Thoughts This is a great oven. With just the two of us, it is a great size for baking small portions. Natural gas used to be cheaper than electric, but not any more (at least in our area.) Using this oven saves us money, and it's great to use in the summer because it doesn't heat up the house like a full sized oven can. It looks very attractive on our counter, it's easy to clean, and so far I have not had one complaint other than the fact that the signal sound is not loud enough.
