| Lisa_J's Full Review: Our Generation Battat Marissa Babysitter Doll |
Two Christmas seasons ago, Grandma gave my youngest daughter the Our Generation Battat Marissa Babysitter Doll. She immediately liked the concept of the doll and had a hard time waiting for it to be removed from the packaging for playtime. Recently she decided to let go of this doll, as it isn't collectible worthy, but she certainly enjoyed those couple years of play.
If you are looking for an 18" doll, I recommend checking Target, as the Our Generation dolls are similar in size to the American Girl Dolls, but much less expensive. This savings is most appreciated when children are seeking a doll to play with, versus a collectible. There are noticeable differences in quality and appearance, especially the hair quality and clothing construction.
Recommended for ages 3 & up, the Our Generation Battat Marissa Babysitter Doll set would be most appreciated by children 3 - 10 years of age. This set includes a 18" doll, a front pack, a smaller doll, and clothing for both dolls.
The 18" doll (named Marissa) has a soft (cloth & stuffing) middle section and the arms/legs/head are constructed from vinyl. The legs, arms and head move, allowing your child to pose the doll. The eyes open and close with movement of the doll. This doll arrived dressed in a skirt, shirt, socks, shoes, panties, undershirt, and had a headband on. The long hair strands are auburn color.
As mentioned, this set includes a front pack, allowing Babysitter Marissa to carry the 8 1/2" baby doll. The baby doll has a soft middle and vinyl arms/legs/head. Unlike the 18" doll, the limbs nor head on this tiny doll rotate. However the eyes open and close when the doll is laid down/sat up. This baby doll is dressed in a Velcro-style cloth diaper, pj like pants and shirt, and is wearing a hat.
My daughter and I share the opinion that this doll set is intended for play, versus having the collector appeal of the American Girl sets. The hair on Babysitter Marissa shows wear -is frizzy, regardless of the fact that my daughter is easy on dolls. The included clothing, although not torn or tattered, is inexpensive looking. This is a play-set and has been appreciated as such. Now that my -11 year old- daughter appreciates 18" dolls more for collectible purpose than play value, interest in this set has decreased, and she has decided to give it away. But I am so thankful for sets such as this, which allow children to play with, comb the hair of, and use for dramatic play, without concern with regard to the expense of replacement.
